Slavery, racism, Mandingo negro warriors that fight each other to the death... did Samuel L. Jackson have any reservations when he read the script to Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained"? "Nope," he said matter a factly in our recent interview with the actor. "I read it straight through, laughed and thought, 'This is going to be fun.' "

The last time this writer wrote something even slightly negative about M. Night Shyamalan on this very site – the phrase "diminishing returns" was thrown about if memory serves - it was open season in the comments section. The writer-director certainly still has his passionate fans who don’t need much provocation in order to jump to his defense, but it seems that Samuel L. Jackson isn’t one of them. The actor is known for speaking his mind, and during an interview over at the Huffington Post to promote “Django Unchained” he did just that on a variety of issues, including the career of Shyamalan.

Hot on the heels of his colorful appearance on "Saturday Night Live" over the weekend, and the rumors that elements of Nick Fury’s solo-movie might have been folded into “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” comes word from the Anime News Network (via Movies.com) that Samuel L. Jackson has joined the cast of the English-language live-action remake of Yasuomi Umetsu’s 1988 anime film “Kite.”

You may recall earlier this year in the summer we had a podcast about super hero films and much of our discussion touched upon rumors we had heard brewing from the Marvel Universe. One of the unconfirmed stories we had heard about centered on the mooted Nick Fury/S.H.I.E.L.D. movie, which was in the cards back in the day before the S.H.I.E.L.D. concept moved to TV. Word was parts of the Nick Fury story would be folded into "Captain America 2," aka "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

Films by Quentin Tarantino aren't exactly Halley's Comet, but for a while there, they didn't come as often as some filmgoers would have liked. And while the filmmaker seems to be back at his pace of delivering a film every two or three years, the arrival of a new Tarantino picture generally makes the cinema world sit up and take notice. And as always, opinions on his films vary wildly from film to film, from cinephile to cinephile.

As the Marvel universe continues to expand, the one sort-of constant has been Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, popping his head into "Iron Man," "Iron Man 2," "Thor," "Captain America: The First Avenger" and of course, "The Avengers" to ensure he can provide the exposition to keep the movies connected. But it seems he'll finally get to take a bit of break as the "Iron Man 3" won't be needing his services.

With the first screening out of the way (for select industry types only) and rumors of an epic three-hour runtime kicking around, word is buzzing on Quentin Tarantino's still largely unseen "Django Unchained." But The Weinstein Company is getting ready to roll out a big campaign for the picture, and today they launched the official website with a few goodies for those willing to dig.

From the reels of Marvel’s biggest franchises, Nick Fury and Howard Stark are joining forces in a film together! Only, it’s not actually a Marvel flick teaming up two of its side characters, it’s just Samuel L. Jackson and Dominic Cooper moving away from big budget superhero films and taking more low-key roles in the upcoming independent drama “Reasonable Doubt” (which was once known as “The Good Samaritan” but probably changed so as not be confused with Jackson's recent "The Samaritan").

Director-producer-actor-rapper The RZA has both feet firmly planted in the film world with November’s “The Man With The Iron Fists,” but he’s certainly not planning on forgetting his roots anytime soon. Long in the works, RZA has long planned to adapt the life of fellow Wu-Tang Clan member Ol’ Dirty Bastard to the screen, but it’s been years since there’s been movement. As it turns out, one of the reasons is that we’re getting not one, but two ODB films.
