After another misstep with his return to sci-fi "In Time," Andrew Niccol has turned to something a bit safer, adapting "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer's "The Host." While the film doesn't seem to generating the same levels of excitement as Meyer's bloodsucker movies or fellow young adult novel "The Hunger Games," they have gone for the same formula with two fresh-faced male leads (Max Irons and Jake Abel) and an empathetic female (Saoirse Ronan) as the audience's surrogate at the story's heart.

With the second of this year's live-action "Snow White" adaptations nearing release (Universal's dark, fantasy-driven commercial for milk-bathing "Snow White and the Huntsman" will follow Relativity's candy-colored, slapstick-laden "Mirror, Mirror" on June 1st), it appears that Disney, the home of the beloved, animated "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" adaptation, isn't going to move forward with their Asia-set, kung-fu samurai take "The Order of the Seven." Even though the Mouse House has been working on the project for more than ten years, the move isn't exactly a surprise, becoming collateral damage in the wake of the $200 million flop that was "John Carter."

After mightily impressing in the likes of “Atonement,” “The Lovely Bones” and more recently “Hanna,” Saoirse Ronan (a name almost impossible to type correctly on a first attempt) looks to have a very exciting career ahead of her. She’ll star in Neil Jordan’s “Byzantium” later this year and has “The Host” and Darren Aronofsky’s “Noah” among the more notable releases on her upcoming slate. And we can now add another film to that list, in the form of a David Heyman-produced adaptation of a Vera Brittain memoir.

Rumors of their involvement have been circulating for the last week or so, and it looks like things are now set in place with Paramount honcho Adam Goodman confirming the addition of Jennifer Connelly and Saoirse Ronan to Darren Aronofsky's "Noah" for what he describes as a "perfect combination of casting."

There's development and then there's the journey that Disney's "Order Of Seven" (as it's now called) has taken. Originally envisioned as a kung-fu take on "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves," the film has been in the works for years with names like Michael Chabon, Natalie Portman, Francis Lawrence and "The Matrix" fight choreographer Yuen Woo-ping coming and going at various points. But the project had to change gears when rival studios mounted their own revisionist fairy tales, with Tarsem's "Mirror Mirror" and Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman," ramping up and getting in front of cameras first. But that didn't stop the mouse house. "Toy Story 3" writer Michael Arndt was hired to polish the script in early 2011, and over the summer Australian commercial director Michael Gracey, a former animator, was tagged to direct. And now it looks like they're ready to roll as they've got someone to lead the film.

Since her impressive debut in 2007's "Atonement," Saoirse Ronan has made a career out of taking some of the toughest, least conventional teen roles. From her youthful fibber in Joe Wright's film, she's played the deceased victim of a rape and murder in Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones," a Polish girl struggling for survival in Peter Weir's "The Way Back," and a pair of fresh-faced assassins, in Wright's "Hanna" and Geoffrey Fletcher's "Violet and Daisy." And she's still only seventeen. Ronan is currently filming the vampire tale "Byzantium" from Neil Jordan, and is next set to play the dual role of a teen girl and the alien parasite that possesses her in Andrew Niccol's adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's "The Host." Now she's just lined up a third, a film so firmly inside her wheelhouse that, to be honest, we'd assumed she'd signed up to months ago.

As Promised, Keira Knightley, Jude Law & Aaron Johnson To StarWell, Joe Wright and Focus Features have locked down the cast for their lavish adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's classic novel "Anna Karenina," and it seems like a full house of talent – in addition to the already confirmed Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Matthew Mcfadyen ("Pride & Prejudice") and Olivia Williams, the film has added Domhnall Gleeson ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"), Alicia Vikander ("The Seventh Son"), Emily Watson, and Ruth Wilson (BBC series "Luther").
