While cross-property narratives may push the possibilities of comic-book films into new frontiers, the notion can also grind to a halt once character rights come into question. Such is the case with superhero mutants Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who both play into upcoming sequels “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and therefore the equally held rights of Fox and Marvel. But the idea of side-by-side depictions hasn't fazed Joss Whedon, who said they're a “huge part of ['The Avengers 2'],” and now it seems one-half of his duo is nearing a lock.

Byzantium
Between "Twilight" on the big screen, and "True Blood" and "Vampire Diaries" on the cable dial, among countless other books, graphic novels and more, if you're a fan of bloodsuckers, there's likely a flavor out there for you. And with countless other projects in the pipeline (including Universal's brewing "Dracula" reboot), there are still more versions of this undead character on the way. But let's just hope they are more involving and creative than Neil Jordan's "Byzantium." The director's second bite into the genre following "Interview With The Vampire" is disappointingly bloodless (figuratively) and fangless (literally).

With an Oscar in his pocket for the screenplay of "Precious," Geoffrey Fletcher could've tackled any number of projects, and likely had more than a few doors open for him. But instead, he decided tackle his feature debut in a movie that couldn't be more different than the awards season sensation, writing and directing the teen assassin action/comedy "Violet & Daisy."

Neil Jordan’s vampire flick “Byzantium” is only a month away from its US release date of June 28th so if they want to draw out the undead crowd from their darkened dens and Anne Rice book clubs, the time for a promotional barrage is now. To get the ball rolling we have two new clips from the upcoming gothic tale.

Violet and daisy
Premiering at TIFF way back in 2011 and arriving in theaters nearly two years later, it isn't exactly the best indication that "Violet & Daisy" is a winner. But with Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel playing teen killers, and with James Gandolfini popping in for some support, perhaps this will at least be a curiosity worth tracking down.

If you're going to make a movie about vampires, there's going to be blood. And Neil Jordan certainly brings the red stuff "Byzantium" (though maybe not as much as you might expect) his new take on the genre which takes a look the familiar vampire world, but from a female perspective.

The new “Violet & Daisy” poster has landed and it is quite a doozy, with a strikingly bold concatenation of lollipops and guns setting an eye-popping tone for the latest from “Precious” writer Geoffrey Fletcher.

Last fall saw the end of what appeared, for a little while at least, to be a seemingly endless series of "Twilight" films. The moony film series, based on a series of equally moony novels by Mormon housewife Stephenie Meyer, were torturously lengthy, poorly plotted trifles, the stuff of dime-store romance novels and late-night horror movies (although infused with questionable gender politics and bizarre mythology for all the monsters that simply chose to ignore or eschew their Judeo-Christian background or iconography, leaving them as little more than metaphorically empty mopes). They also made what leading economists describe as a "shit ton" of money.

While vampires, werewolves and sorts of supernatura subject matter aren't going away anytime soon, it seems that international auteurs are getting in on the action. Christoph Gans is currently in the midst of "Beauty & The Beast" with Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux, and this summer, Neil Jordan takes on vampires in "Byzantium," and yes, there will be blood.
