As we're sure you're aware by now, there are three duelling projects retelling the tale of Snow White in development. One, Disney's "Snow and the Seven," is the furthest away -- while "Toy Story 3" writer Michael Arndt recently signed on to do a script polish, and director Francis Lawrence is still nominally attached, it has no star, and no start date. Another, Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman," was once leading the pack, and does have Kristen Stewart signed on in the title role, but seems to have hit problems in recent days -- Charlize Theron still hasn't signed on as the villain, and Viggo Mortensen's talks have apparently collapsed.

Jennifer Lawrence Is Not A Frontrunner For The RoleLess than 24 hours after Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin and Jennifer Lawrence emerged as contenders for the highly touted role of Katniss Everdeen in the gestating "Hunger Games," some more, pretty obvious names emerged. Talent that would be on any director or casting agent's wishlist for a role that needs a young female lead.

The "is she? isn't she?" game of whether or not Saoirse Ronan will join "The Hobbit" continues. Last month, casting agent Ros Hubbard said that Ronan has been cast—or is intended to be cast—in “The Hobbit" saying, “[W]orking with Peter Jackson is like working with a family. So they’ll have a great time. Saoirse’s family will go too. Everyone is very close and very loving on those sorts of jobs. It’s not like typical studio movies at all.” Well, looks like it's still not official.

Last fall, a rather interesting project was coming together based around a script from actress/screenwriter Emma Thompson. Titled "Effie," the film lined up a solid cast with Saorise Ronan, Orlando Bloom, Imelda Staunton, Greg Wise and Thompson herself in the strange-but-true story that centers on the wedding night between Victorian artist, architect, poet and political thinker John Ruskin and his wife, Effie Gray. Ruskin was long infatuated with Gray and married her when she was 17. However, when it came time to consummate their marriage, something so reviled Ruskin that Gray remained a virgin until after they divorced and she remarried his protege, painter, John Everett Millais. While it has never been established just what disgusted Ruskin to the point he refused to have sex with his wife, theories over the years have speculated it might have been pubic hair or menstrual blood.

We have to admit, the first trailer for Joe Wright's "Hanna" didn't do much for us, not really delivering on the 'Bourne'-esque vibe we were expecting, but the new UK trailer plays much better and points to something perhaps slightly different than the Matt Damon franchise.

While it's not concrete and official just yet, it looks like all signs are pointing to Saoirse Ronan reuniting with Peter Jackson for his massive two-part "The Hobbit."

Opinion has been mixed thus far on Joe Wright's forthcoming teenage assassin flick "Hanna." And early look at footage at New York Comic Con was met with a muted response and the first trailer for the film seemed to be a bit all over the place. But there's still a few months to go to sway opinion and a new poster has arrived that hopes to change the tide.

So, some small bits of news surrounding "The Hobbit" have cropped up in the past day or so. Nothing particularly revelatory but just small updates on the progress on the film and in particular, how casting is shaping up.

The trailer for Joe Wright's teenage assassin picture "Hanna" just dropped. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett, the film centers on a 14-year-old (Ronan) who was raised by her father (Bana) to be a coldhearted killing machine and then connects with a French family who look to help ease her into a more conventional life. Blanchett plays the CIA spy agent trying to track her down.
