Under The Skin
To say that we've been looking forward to Jonathan Glazer's "Under The Skin" would be an understatement. The filmmaker made his name with music videos, before turning to the feature film world, dropping his sizzling debut "Sexy Beast" in 2000, followed four years later by "Birth," which, in this writer's opinion, is one of the best films of the 2000s. The wait has been a bit longer for Glazer's sci-fi effort "Under The Skin," which has taken its time from filming through post-production, but it looks like patience has paid off.

Under The Skin
If you’re a random male pedestrian and a gal who looks like Scarlett Johansson ever pulls up and offers to take you to her place for a quickie, the logical thing to do would be run like hell, since this could only be either a sting or a sign of the apocalypse, no matter how good looking a fellow you are. But lust trumps logic as Johansson lures a bevy of bros to their doom in “Under the Skin,” which screened Friday night at the Telluride Film Festival.

Don Jon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson
This one's got love, sex and porn. What more could you want? Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a triple threat. Writer, director, actor, you could even go quintuple or more if you counted his growing entrepreneurial multi-media empire hitRecord and his seemingly innate ability to sing and dance. Having made many shorts for his aforementioned company, Gordon-Levitt directed his first feature-length effort earlier this year and it premiered to rave reviews at Sundance. Titled "Don Jon," the movie co-stars Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza and Brie Larson and centers on a New Jersey lothario (JGL) who develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and then has to work at finding happiness and intimacy with his potential true love.

10 Of Woody Allen's Best Female Characters
There are a few stock criticisms often leveled at a new Woody Allen film: his characters are all neurotic messes; his films are relentlessly white and upper-middle class; when he tries for profundity, he flounders; when he leaves Manhattan, he never achieves anything like the heights of his New York-set stories; his eye for his own approximate generation's foibles and concerns has always been sharper than that for the much younger... the list goes on. But however much you may have your knives out, you just can't accuse Allen of not writing decent roles for women.

Don Jon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tony Danza
Awards season is right around the corner, and one of the possible contenders is actor (and now director) Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s latest film, “Don Jon.” The actor’s directorial debut sees him playing a man struggling to have a stable relationship while fighting an increasing addiction to pornography. When the film played at Sundance, our own Rodrigo Perez gave the film an in-between rating of B and B+, calling it a “beguiling romantic comedy” and praising the “characters who love to challenge their stereotypes.”

Even though her political career isn't over yet, with a 2016 Presidential race still a distinct possibility, it looks like the life of Hillary Rodham Clinton is being prepared for some cinematic reflections. Last month, "Smashed" and "The Spectacular Now" director James Ponsoldt signed to direct the Black List approved "Rodham," a biopic focusing on Hillary's student days and her rise into the world of politics. It's some strong material and a good story, and naturally, some big name actresses are already being bandied about to take the lead role.

After becoming a hit at Sundance and South by Southwest (our review called it "impressive and charming", Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut, the porn addiction comedy "Don Jon," finally has a trailer. And judging by the brief glimpse at the movie, it's easy to see why audiences went loony for this – it looks pretty damn charming, with Levitt leading a amazing cast (including Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza, and Brie Larson) and an original, totally identifiable take on the modern romantic comedy.

t's almost a decade since Scarlett Johansson became a major star thanks to Sofia Coppola's "Lost In Translation," and the actress continues to confound expectations; her diverse pick of roles of late has included a Cameron Crowe rom-com, superhero epic "The Avengers," playing Janet Leigh in "Hitchcock" and, coming up, playing a cannibalistic alien in Jonathan Glazer's "Under The Skin." And now she's taking another curve; she' s going to direct.

The culinary arts and filmmaking don't seem to go together that often. You get the occasional great picture set in the restaurant world -- "Big Night" and "Ratatouille" spring to mind -- but more often than not, you end up with films more like "No Reservations" when you try to put cooks on screen. But now, chefs are suddenly the new, uh, Snow White, with two big names gearing up rival foodie-related pictures, to the extent that legal issues may be brewing over their titles.
