A musical about grubby looking people scrabbling around a France as an uprising brews, a genre mashup about slavery, a movie about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, a picture that is literally someone dying for two hours, another one about fracking, a film about the ups and downs of turning forty...yeah, you might want to rest your brain this holiday season and Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand are here to let you do just that.

"This is definitely a story about a guy trying not to be really annoyed by his mother all the time," Seth Rogen told USA Today about "The Guilt Trip" that stars the "Pineapple Express" star alongside Barbra Streisand. And while that annoyance takes center stage in the first trailer for the film, overall it has a heartening, charming vibe that is hard to deny.

In a moment of weakness, Andy Brewster (Seth Rogen) asks his widowed mom (Barbra Streisand) to join him on a work-related cross-country road trek in "The Guilt Trip." That's all the premise is and it sounds rather paper-thin, but the first clip of the film released earlier this week was surprisingly charming.

Right now, The Playlist team is at a divide with "The Guilt Trip." Half of us think it will be a movie to avoid this upcoming holiday season, while the other half see lots of comic potential in the pairing of Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogen. And at least for this writer, this first clip places me in the latter camp.

Seth Rogen has never minded having a bit of fun at the expense of Tom Cruise. You may recall that earlier this year, he recounted the time he peed on the actor's driveway. And now, he's ready to be his wife.

Awww, now that's one delightful duo. Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand aren't exactly two names you'd expect to see share top billing on any feature but the pair play mother and son in Anne Fletcher's upcoming road-trip comedy "The Guilt Trip."

In case we haven't made it pretty clear already, "Take This Waltz" is one of the best films of 2012 thus far. We've been blowing the trumpet pretty hard for the film, and that's because it's the kind of low-key, smart picture that needs to be championed, so excuse us if we're just going to make a bit more noise.

You want to know how far the branches of the Judd Apatow tree go? Just look at the cast of "The End Of The World." Not only does it feature pretty much the regular Apatow players including Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Jay Baruchel and Jason Segel, it also features friends and celebs like Michael Cera, Aziz Ansari, Emma Watson and Rihanna. In short, anybody even vaguely related to Apatow's circle will probably pop up as the movie continues rolling, and speaking of which, the first set pics have landed.

Did you know that Michael Haneke originally turned his back on Palme d'Or-winning "Amour" because he had seen an unnamed Canadian film that treads the same ground? At the time, we came up with two possibilities for the work being referenced: Denys Arcand's "The Barbarian Invasions" or Sarah Polley's "Away From Her," but with Cannes now over, we're convinced as ever that the film in question is Polley's directorial debut.

Nicholas Stoller To Direct Seth Rogen & Zac Efron In 'Townies'

Judd Apatow has made no secret of it for some time: he and his family love Zac Efron. It's a move that semi-legitimized the young actor who seemingly has been trying to bust out of the teen hearthrob ghetto with only mixed results thus far (though "The Paperboy" is right around the corner and a few passion projects are simmering). Efron worked with Apatow's wife Leslie Mann on "17 Again," and apparently the whole gang hang out from time to time. So perhaps it was no major shock when Apatow troupe member and friend Seth Rogen was announced as Efron's co-star in an R-Rated comedy for Universal last year. Definitely an edgier move than Efron fans are used to at this point.
