While "The World's End" may be the most anticipated Brit-com of the summer by quite some distance, there's at least one other laugher landing before the weather cools that could be worth the price of admission; the big-screen debut of Alan Partridge. There's been talk of bringing Steve Coogan's most seminal creation, a low-rent talk show host turned regional radio DJ, who featured in the series "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and "I'm Alan Partridge," to the big screen for quite some time, but shooting finally got underway earlier this year for an August release date, and after a brief tease earlier in the year, a full trailer has arrived over at MSN for "Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa."

An assortment of news, rolling in from Cannes like the waves on the beach there. Probably. I've never been. Anyway. "The Raid" helmer Gareth Evans is currently in production on his most-likely bone-crunching follow-up "Berandal," and, while he's got some Hollywood projects in development, isn't going to be abandoning Indonesian martial-arts pictures altogether; Screen Daily report that the Welsh ex-pat will serve as action director on "The Night Comes For Us," a vehicle for "The Raid" vet, and "Fast & Furious 6" stand out Joe Taslim. The film will see Taslim as a Triad enforcer who accidentally causes a massacre, and will be properly directed by Timo Tjahjanto.

Review: 'What Maisie Knew' Is Deeply Affecting, Hard To Watch

What Maisie Knew
It’s often an easy way to handicap your film, by centering it on a child character and demanding a great deal from the young actor. By definition, children are not fully-formed people, but a character in a film must be either fully-formed to yield proper dramatic results, or so uniquely authentic that it’s like catching chaos in a bottle, an approach that can create a serious cognitive dissonance when youth collides with seasoned actors. Remarkably, such chaos is present in young Onata Aprile, the title character of “What Maisie Knew,” an affecting new contemporary drama that never once feels phony when the camera is fixed on her face.

Anna Friel and Steve Coogan in THE LOOK OF LOVE
Marking the fourth collaboration between director Michael Winterbottom and actor Steve Coogan, "The Look of Love" is based on the true story of porn baron Paul Raymond. Raymond amassed over $1 billion through purchasing prime real estate in London's Soho, becoming Britain's richest man and earning the title "The King of Soho." Anna Friel plays his wife Jean, who posed for some of Raymond's porno shoots and ultimately received a record divorce-settlement. Their daughter is played by charming and soon-to-be everywhere Imogen Poots. You can peak in at the couple's relationship in the clip below.

Imgoen Poots and Steve Coogan in THE LOOK OF LOVE
Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January, the latest from the prolific Michael Winterbottom didn't exactly win our man on the ground over (he called it "a shallow misfire"), but a swinging, Steve Coogan-starring trip into smut is still something many will be curious about. And this first clip from "The Look Of Love" seems to capture both the wit and other pleasures some might derive from the movie.

Year after year, HBO has continually showcases how much of a cable TV juggernaut they are, always coming out with great programming from interesting filmmakers and actors. Still, they’re a business, and when a show is doing poorly in the ratings, HBO has to send it to the chopping block no matter the amount of critical acclaim it receives. “Enlightened” is one of those shows, unfortunately.

Tamsin Egerton in THE LOOK OF LOVE
So, with Steven Soderbergh stepping away from film sets to pursue other endeavors, whose going to replace him as the cinematic chameleon to follow? Well, how about Michael Winterbottom? In the past few years the Brit helmer has gone from scuzzy noir "The Killer Inside Me" to comedic road trip series "The Trip" to an India-set Thomas Hardy adaptation "Trishna" to an intimate character study with "Everyday." And now, his latest is a biopic on smut king and real estate baron Paul Raymond. Like we said, the guy doesn't like to repeat himself.

Boasting a kinship with "The Kids Are All Right" by sharing the same producers, if anything "What Maisie Knew" does indeed look like it will be another look at modern relationships warts and all. And it also shares Julianne Moore, who stars here, once again as a mother, albeit with an altogether different set of circumstances surrounding her child and how she'll press on when her family unit is ruptured.
