Images from that big Toronto announcement this morning keep coming, and two adult-minded thrillers from stars-turned-directors are next up. We had the first look at Robert Redford's "The Company You Keep" yesterday, with images of Redford (who plays the lead role, a '60s radical on the run), Shia LaBeouf (the journalist pursuing him) and Brit Marling (Redford's daughter). Now a new picture of Redford, this time being pursued at night, has arrived on the TIFF website along with the first look of Susan Sarandon in the film. The film is getting a gala premiere but not a world premiere, suggesting heavily that it's likely to be bowing at Venice, as rumored, a week or two beforehand -- that news should be confirmed on Thursday.

“Mother’s Day” - wasn’t that a horror film that came out recently starring Rebecca De Mornay and Jaime King? You know, it was a remake of that '80s video nasty which featured graphic scenes of rape, violence and murder. What’s that...this is a different “Mother’s Day”...a drama that tells a series of loosely interconnected stories over the course of a day when greeting cards are exchanged. Oh, great.

With an election season in full swing, and the economy still on uneven footing, perhaps there is no better time for "Arbitrage," the feature film debut of Nicholas Jarecki (the brother of Eugene and Andrew Jarecki). And pulling together a cast that includes Susan Sarandon, Brit Marling, Tim Roth, Laetitia Casta, Nate Parker and Chris Eigeman, all led by what's regarded by many to be the best performance in years by Richard Gere, this should make an impression this fall.

So just how messed up and bonkers will The Wachowskis' and Tom Tykwer's adaptation of David Mitchell's "Cloud Atlas" be? Well, Hugh Grant will apparently be doing a lot of "killing and raping," and as for Susan Sarandon? She tells Postmedia that her small role finds her playing "an Indian man." Huh? We're getting ahead ourselves a bit, because the good news is you'll be seeing this sooner than expected.

Since her breakout role in 2005’s “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang,” Michelle Monaghan has been steadily turning in solid supporting performances in everything from big-budget thrillers (“Mission Impossible III”) to more character-based dramas (“North Country”), but Hollywood still hasn’t seen her as a leading lady. That’s all set to change though, as Monaghan has signed on to appear in her biggest role yet alongside Susan Sarandon.

The combination of words "Dwayne Johnson thriller" and "Susan Sarandon" isn't exactly something we would have expected, but the actress has never been one that is easily pinned down. She's a player with The Lonely Island crew, will appear in "I Hate You Dad" with Adam Sandler next summer, and is currently filming "Cloud Atlas" with The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer. So, starring in "Snitch"? Piece of cake.

As surreal as it is to see a micro-budget Duplass Brothers film start with the stars and mountainous terrain of the Paramount logo, in many ways that contradiction and clash sets the tone for their new comedy "Jeff Who Lives at Home." Strange things are afoot in the cosmos as Jeff (played with affable confusion and large-framed, good-hearted charm by Jason Segel) is trying to keep his eyes open for what the universe might be telling him, in terms of his destiny and purpose. Also, his mom Sharon (Susan Sarandon) would like it if he could get his ass off the couch in her basement and go to Home Depot to get wood glue to fix a broken pantry door slat …
