The last time I wrote about "The Conjuring," some commenters gave me flack for suggesting the first teaser trailer relied to heavily on loud noises and jump scares. Well, what will they have to say about this?

Okay, so it's not quite Jack Nicholson who the filmmakers were hoping for last fall, but a movie with Robert Duvall and Robert Downey Jr. in the lead roles, still sounds pretty good us.

When considering a stay at the “Bates Motel,” it’s probably worth remembering that couple who were looking for a quiet night at the start of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Judging by its Gothic ambiance and mentally unstable management, teased in a new 6-minute clip from the upcoming A&E drama, the place is just ripe for this brand of freakish escalation.

There's so much Hitchock this fall anywhere you turn, but we guess we can't complain about having an overabundance of one of the greatest directors of all time. Universal's recent Blu-ray box prompted us to do a 2-part retrospective of his films, while on the small screen we saw Toby Jones take on the titan in "The Girl," while Anthony Hopkins gears up to do the same at a cinema near you this weekend in "Hitchcock." And yes, there's even more coming. A&E is gearing up to take you back to "Bates Motel" next spring and the first look at the film is positively psyc--- calm....

One of the most tantalizing projects headed to the small screen, but also one of the riskiest, is A&E's "Bates Motel." Earlier this summer, the network skipped the whole pilot episode thing and ordered up ten episodes of the show for a 2013 premiere, and it seems the wheels are beginning to turn now. And this first bit of casting puts on face on a famed movie character that only existed as voice in Alfred Hitchock's "Psycho," which this series will serve as a prequel to.

Even though he scripted "American Beauty" for Sam Mendes before his two successful television shows "Six Feet Under" and "True Blood," Alan Ball has only returned to the silver screen for little-seen directorial debut "Towelhead." Last year, though, brought news that Emmy and Oscar winning writer-director (hello EGOT?) was lining up a return with a dark comedy for Paramount.

After a starring role in an adaptation of "A View From The Bridge" fell apart last year, Vera Farmiga's latest run of films have been dominated by supporting turns ("Source Code," "Goats" and "Safe House"), although she did get her directorial debut "Higher Ground" into theaters last year as well.

Even though she nabbed the biggest exposure and acclaim of her career to date thanks to her Oscar nominated turn in "Up In The Air," Vera Farmiga has continued to march to the beat of her own drum. She's eschewed big glossy tentpoles, using her post-Oscar heat to make her directorial debut "Higher Ground," as well as take roles in a diverse array of projects from high concept sci-fi ("Source Code"), indie dramedy (the recently Sundance premiered "Goats") and even a B-movie potboiler in this weekend's "Safe House." And the actress continues to take on new challenges, with her next gig providing another intriguing role.

Well folks, the first batch of nominees this awards season have been revealed, with the Gotham Independent Film Award nominations landing this morning, giving an early peek at what will likely be some strong contenders down the line. Bear in mind, the Gotham Awards have little bearing on the eventual Oscar nods with only last year's Best Feature winner "Winter's Bone" factoring into the proceedings at the Kodak Theater. However, it does represent a good chunk of what you might see at the Independent Spirit Awards later in the year and if anything, these nominations confirm that Fox Searchlight is going to have another banner year on the statue circuit.

For never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her Romeo. It's not surprising that William Shakespeare's tale of star-crossed lovers has provided the inspiration for dozens of films over the years, but there seems to be something in the water at the moment in particular: Disney had a surprise hit at the start of the year with their (very loose) animated take, "Gnomeo & Juliet," while Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth are gearing up for a more faithful version, while Keira Knightley and Lily Collins are supposedly competing for the lead in "Rosaline," which will focus on the titular girl, who Romeo is in love with before he gets all flustered by Juliet.
