And even more, she's stepped things up by making her directorial debut on a film penned by Karen McCullah Lutz ("Legally Blonde," "The House Bunny") and based on the book "Angel Angel" by April Stevens.

Candyman, Candyman, Candyman, Candyman, Candyman. One silly sounding word repeated five times into a mirror, which unleashes all kinds of mayhem -- and, as it happens, one of the more original horror creations of the last few decades. The hook-handed son of a slave (as embodied by Tony Todd) summoned by the chanting of his name, created by horror legend Clive Barker (along with writer/director Bernard Rose), he's appeared in three films to date. And while the substandard sequels saw the character lose his luster, it doesn't change the fact that the original "Candyman," which was released twenty years ago today on October 16th, 1992, is a fairly superior and unusually intelligent horror flick.

How the mighty have fallen... There was a time when Mary Harron was looking like a rare and unique talent in the filmmaking world, particularly after coming off the one-two punch of "I Shot Andy Warhol" and "American Psycho." But it has been dimishing returns since then. She spend most of the aughts working in television, but delivered one feature, the potentially promising but ultimately undercooked "The Notorious Bettie Page." And last year her vampire flick "The Moth Diaries" dropped with a barely a sound. And now she's doing Lifetime schlock.

Virginia Madsen Steps In For Annette Bening In Rob Reiner's 'Summer At Dog Dave's'

Kenan Thompson Also JoinsIt seems that even before it has started lensing, the next effort from the inconsistent Rob Reiner is already trading down. First announced as "The Third Act," the title is now "Summer At Dog Dave's," which sounds like a wacky made-for-Nickelodeon movie that we would never watch. Next, Morgan Freeman and Annette Bening were said to be toplining the film, but the latter (who apparently was never officially signed on) has been replaced by Virginia Madsen -- who is a fine actress indeed -- but obviously doesn't bring as much zing to the movie.
