Time for a TV news round-up now.....“Masters of Sex,” the upcoming Showtime series starring Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, looks to have bagged itself a new recurring cast-member. Wendi McLendon-Covey (“Bridesmaids”) already has established a recurring role in “Rules of Engagement” and more recently “Modern Family,” but she’s now set to do the same in "Masters of Sex" in which she’ll play the only female doctor in a male-dominated hospital, who will also serve as both a competitor and mentor for Lizzy Caplan’s character. Showtime have already given the show a 12-episode order, with it due to debut later this year on September 29th.

God, the "Bridesmaids" sequel conversation has to stop. It all started when Universal said they'd consider making a sequel with or without lead actress Kristen Wiig (who wrote the script with her pal Annie Mumolo). Of course they would: the hilarious and successful comedy became the highest-grossing R-rated female-led comedy of all time (domestically) last year (outgrossing "Sex and the City" by about $17 million in North America). They'd love a repeat of that financial success. But cast members quickly said the obvious aloud: a sequel without Wiig would be a terrible idea, and producer Judd Apatow pretty much said the same. But the wishful-thinking crowd got a little bit more excited for a sequel when co-star Wendi McLendon-Covey gave them all a little hope and said Wiig could star in a sequel after all (so far, she's been fairly disinterested in returning to the territory and told THR she was writing something else).

Yes, it's the story that doesn't want to die. With word emerging that Universal was planning to move ahead with a "Bridsemaids" sequel without its co-writer and star Kristen Wiig, it seems everyone has an opinion. And most of that opinion is "it's a terrible idea." In fact, those were the words used by Melissa McCarthy when she was recently asked about making a followup without Wiig. But her co-star, Wendi McLendon-Covey -- who played the under-sexed, over-worked Rita -- is a bit more optimistic about things all working out.
