As we detailed yesterday with 15 examples, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” moves forward with its pervasive (or as one could say, “annoying”) marketing prowess, utilizing underwear, ice cream, and automobiles as venues on which to slap Ron Burgundy’s face. Paramount hasn’t blocked their usual routes for promoting a film though, so we’ve got a pair of new clips—one from the Adam McKay-directed sequel, one as a holiday exclusive message, and also a look at a Funny Or Die-produced mockumentary starring Will Ferrell, Tobey Maguire, and Kristen Wiig.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues
There is no “in case you’ve been living under a rock” in terms of the awareness level of "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” the long overdue sequel to 2004's "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy." If you’ve lived under said rock in the last month, chances are Will Ferrell, in full Ron Burgundy regalia, has lifted up your stone and convivially asked you the way to San Diego. It’s also very possible Ferrell/Burgundy asked you if you needed any underpants, ice cream or Scotch while he was down there on his knees messing up his well-tailored maroon-colored pants, all in the name of not-so-subtly enlightening you to the existence of "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”

Anchorman: The Legend Continues
Is there such a thing as too much Ron Burgundy? The answer is apparently: "no." The relentless promo machine for "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" shows no sign of stopping, with Will Ferrell literally travelling the globe with his suit and mustache never too far behind. And don't be fooled into thinking Thanksgiving stopped Ferrell from collecting air miles and bagging more hotel room soaps.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues
As the marketing for "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" carries on, it can be easy to forget that there is actual movie in between the mobile games, Ron Burgundy guest appearances, branded clothes, and more. But as we get closer to the release date, the fog of commercials is beginning to clear and the comedy is beckoning on the horizon. And wouldn't you know it? The movie could be an Oscar contender.

Anchorman 2
The campaign for "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" rolls on, permeating almost every pop culture sphere possible, and so this morning comes even more from the movie. But in this case, instead of Ron Burgundy shilling for products and commenting on TV shows, we have a couple scenes from the actual movie (and yes, Ron Burgundy shilling for products and commenting on TV shows too).

Ron Burgundy Conan
Here are two recent, media overload entities rolled into one: Rob Ford and Ron Burgundy. The "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" promotional train continues to run into overdrive with no product it won't endorse, stunt it won't pull or contest it won't run. On the one hand you gotta kind of admire Will Ferrell's dedication. On the other, it's too much of a good thing to the point we're burned out Ron Burgundy even before the sequel has arrived. Anchorman 2, poster crop
If it's one thing we know about "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" director Adam McKay, it's that he shoots a lot of footage. There were so many alternate takes from the first 'Anchorman' that he cobbled together an entire second movie from the footage, entitled "Wake Up, Ron Burgundy" that was included in special two-packs with the original movie, and has joked that he shot more film for "Step Brothers" than Francis Ford Coppola did for "Apocalypse Now." But according to a new interview with Empire, McKay is planning an entire alternate version of "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" with completely new jokes. Plus: a brand new poster for the movie!

Now, these are more like it. Only earlier today, we were talking around the Playlist water cooler about how the marketing for "Anchorman: The Legend Continues," which has involved a slightly underwhelming teaser trailer, Will Ferrell shooting 70 (!) in-character Dodge Durango ads, and as of yesterday, a Ben & Jerrys flavor called "Scotchy Scotch Scotch," has risked turning Ron Burgundy from the central character of the funniest pure comedy of the 00s to a corporate pitchman whose new movie was looking worryingly disappointing.

Earlier this summer Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson finally reteamed for "The Internship" but unfortunately, it wasn't quite the "Wedding Crashers"-esque comedy we were hoping for. Intermittently funny, it was a pale imitation of their earlier efforts, and even an appearance by Will Ferrell in a cameo couldn't stem the diminishing returns. However, it appears that there was a bit more Ferrell left on the cutting room floor.

There was a time when pairing up John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell pairing up for a comedy was a bit of an odd idea, but after "Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby" and more importantly, "Step Brothers," we'll watch these two guys in anything. And thankfully, they've got a new project cooking.
