With well over $300 million in box office receipts and counting, "The Hangover Part II" is a bonafide smash hit. Before the movie came out, there was already talk of a third entry in the comedy franchise and after audiences flocked to the movie opening weekend, it didn't take long for Warner Bros. to hire back Craig Mazin to get writing the script for a followup. And while the cast has busy calendars in the immediate future -- Bradley Cooper starts "The Place Beyond The Pines" this summer with "The Crow" and possibly "Paradise Lost" waiting in the wings; Ed Helms returns to "The Office" in the fall; Zach Galifianakis shoots "Southern Rivals" with Will Ferrell this summer -- it looks like they're already getting calls to firm them up for another boozy adventure.

Review: 'The Hangover Part II' Is A Lazy, Unpleasant & Unfunny Mess

Unlike most of the summer movies, which seem to be thundering into theaters without any real anticipation beyond the cacophonous marketing hype, "The Hangover Part II" seems to be a film people are unreasonably excited for. The 2009 original, directed by Todd Phillips, has metamorphosed from simply being the biggest R-rated comedy of all time (and winner of a Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy Golden Globe) to being a movie that average filmgoers consider an instant "classic" of the genre and a staple of any fun-lover's DVD collection. (It's also the biggest selling comedy DVD of all time. Jesus.) The prospect of another movie, again starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis, coming this quickly, has been tantalizing for cinemagoers and something that is getting people really, really jazzed, which makes it somewhat harder to report that "The Hangover Part II" is one of the laziest, unself-aware and most unpleasant Hollywood products we've seen all year. And we just saw the fourth "Pirates Of The Caribbean" movie a couple of weeks ago.

Comedian Says Paramount Pictures Are Being "Idiots" About 'Anchorman 2'Playing the Tribeca Film Festival this week is the low-key Will Ferrell film, "Everything Must Go," directed by first-timer Dan Rush. Loosely based on a Raymond Carver short story and co-starring Michael Peña and Rebecca Hall, Ferrell turns in one of his most understated and nuanced performance ever (yes, including "Stranger Than Fiction") as an alcoholic who relapses, causing him to lose his wife, his job and his home which forces him to hold a yard sale on his front lawn in an attempt to start over.

What happens when you become hot in Hollywood is that you're able to attach yourself to a lot of projects, firstly to give yourself more options, and secondly because the material that gets sent your way tends to get better as your fame meter rises. But timing, schedules and other factors mean that sometimes a project gets stalled or doesn't get made, or simply, there's no time to do it.

These days, to be considered a major player, you gotta have your fingers in a lot of different pies, and television -- especially on premium cable like HBO or AMC -- are providing opportunities for talent to develop a broad array of work. One has to look no further than Mark Wahlberg or Tom Hanks who are heavily involved with the network with a variety of programs. So really, it's no surprise that David Gordon Green and Zach Galifianakis are making bigger strides down those avenues.

Along with Judd Apatow, Todd Phillips is one of a few filmmakers you could say was truly responsible for shaping the modern studio comedy over the last decade. “Old School” and “The Hangover” practically set the template for raunchy-but-realistic man-centric comedies, launching the big-screen careers of almost all involved in the process. The filmmaker, whose “The Hangover Part II” is finished and will be shown to the studio this week with a trailer to follow soon, sat down with Elvis Mitchell for a panel discussion at SXSW that we attended, to talk about his career as well as discuss his highly anticipated sequel.

Zach Galifianakis, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Robert Loggia, Jeff Goldblum, Will Forte & William Atherton Will All FeatureTo go over the multiple six degrees of comedy connections between Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim would take us all night but here's the short version: these are two funny dudes whose success and cult status of their recently ended "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!" sketch comedy show on Adult Swim brought them to the attention of comedy's biggest stars and made them a team clearly headed onto bigger and better things. Word around their feature debut has been bubbling for the past few weeks, but it looks like things are finally getting locked into place.

So, does this mean Ryan Reynolds won't be starring in "Deadpool"? Let's back up for a second. Comedian Zach Galifianakis is in talks to join Reynolds in "R.I.P.D.," an adaptation of the Dark Horse comic book about a pair of deceased detectives, one a recently murdered cop, the other a gunslinger from the Old West. Robert Schwentke ("Red," "The Time Traveler's Wife," "Flightplan") has been attached to direct since last fall.
