The Purge: Anarchy
It doesn't take a thinking person more than ten seconds to poke holes in the premise of “The Purge." It also doesn't take one to see the seductive hook of the material: Americans acting upon some sort of birthright to behave like animals, to let loose the chains of propriety and savagely end each other. “The Purge: Anarchy” takes place in 2023, and the surprise isn't that the American dream has become, “Fend for yourself, leave others behind.” No, the surprise is in why this sentiment necessitates the film taking place nine years in the future.

It seems like every week we're either getting a found footage horror movie or one in which some unsuspecting young woman is possessed by demonic forces. So it makes sense that the two tropes should be swirled together, like chocolate and vanilla ice cream, and served to the masses. The resulting confection, this week's not-screened-for-critics horror romp "Devil's Due," does its best to inject some freshness into a scenario that seems to blanket movie screens week in, week out. Sadly, it comes up hard against the limitations of both the format and the genre, and can't ever overcome them.

After earning an Oscar nomination as a producer on the gritty breakout film "Precious," Sarah Siegel-Magness has decided to take on something a bit lighter. Actually, a lot lighter. And even more, she's stepped things up by making her directorial debut on a film penned by Karen McCullah Lutz ("Legally Blonde," "The House Bunny") and based on the book "Angel Angel" by April Stevens.

We know the break between "Mad Men" seasons can be difficult, but luckily, the always solid John Slattery is keeping his chops honed on the big screen as well. And "In Our Nature" offers another chance to see the actor in top form alongside an equally game cast.
