'Adventureland' Duo Jesse Eisenberg & Kristen Stewart Reteam For Action Comedy 'American Ultra'

It seems like an eon ago but circa 2009, Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart were at very different points in their career. The former had yet to find a role as notable as his turn in 2005's "The Squid And The Whale" while the latter had already banked one "Twilight" movie but was still eager to flex her acting chops. They both came together for Greg Mottola's nostalgic, likeable, coming-of-age movie "Adventureland", which promptly helped them step up into bigger gigs. But now Eisenberg and Stewart's stars are aligning again, for something just a little big different.

The pair are teaming up "American Ultra," which isn't a new brand of beer, but the name of an action comedy which boats some interesting names behind it. The script is from Max Landis ("Chronicle"), while behind the camera is "Project X" director Nima Nourizadeh, in a plot that seems somewhat lifted from "Pineapple Express." The story will center on stoner Mike and his girlfriend Phoebe who are forced to go on the run when something from his past returns, forcing him to go on the run from the government, who have set a plan in motion to take him down.

“Simply put, 'American Ultra' will be the most fun you can possibly have in a movie theater without the use of drugs, fireworks, or canola oil," producer Anthony Bregman told THR in the weirdest promo quote we've read in some time.

Anyway, we'll see. Production will begin next April.
