'Anchorman 2' Scores December 20, 2013 Release Date

It's been about six years in the making -- or at least it seems like they've been talking about it that long -- but a pipedream comedy is not only finally happening, it now has a concrete release date.

It's been about six years in the making -- or at least it seems like they've been talking about it that long -- but a pipedream comedy is not only finally happening, it now has a concrete release date.

Adam McKay's "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," starring Will Ferrell as TV news anchor Ron Burgundy, has been dated by Paramount for a December 20, 2013 release date. Recent interviews with producer Judd Apatow have noted a March 2013 start date, hence the unlikely holiday bow (it does take a few months to shoot and edit a movie, after all).

While recent interviews have suggested several potential plotpoints such as a custody battle for a child (presumably Burgundy's) and the protagonists having to deal with the then burgeoning 24-news cycle, Apatow batted those ideas away in an inteview with Crave. "They’re still writing so we’ll see," he said. "When we started working on the first 'Anchorman,' it was all about a plane crash that was kind of a parody of the movie 'Alive,' so until we get to the set, I don’t know what it’s about."

McKay recently told The Playlist in an interview that, while no longer a full-blown musical as once planned, "Anchorman 2" will still have musical moments. "Whole song sequences, absolutely," he stressed to us. Most of the original cast is scheduled to come back, including Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner, and Christine Applegate with McKay hoping for a "murderer's row" of faces to fill out supporting roles.  Also recently dated are Universal's "Riddick," (September 6, 2013), Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Ten" (aka "Breacher") (January 24, 2014), "About Last Night" (Feb 14, 2014) and "Phantom" (March 1, 2013).
