Armie Hammer Joins Tom Cruise In Guy Ritchie's 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.'

It's incredible to think of the ups and down actor Armie Hammer has had. His career was launched in 2010 as the Winklevi twins in David Fincher's "The Social Network," a small but crucial role that earned him just the right amount of attention. But about two years before that Hammer must have assumed he had scored his first real break -- playing Bruce Wayne and Batman in George Miller's "Justice League" film that came close to shooting in 2008, down under, but Warner Bros. eventually pulled the plug.

Now, just a few short years later, he's working alongside Leonardo DiCaprio ("J. Edgar"), Johnny Depp, ("The Lone Ranger") and there's one more megastar to add to the list: Tom Cruise. Reports had Cruise pegged to play Napoleon Solo in Guy Ritchie's version of "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." (a project Steven Soderbergh walked away from in 2011) and those are now confirmed, and his wingman, Illya Kuryakin, will be none other than Hammer. That's nice work if you can get it.

While Hammer will essentially be playing second-fiddle to all these actors, even in "The Lone Ranger" which is evidently more about Tonto's story that the Ranger's, we're sure the actor isn't complaining. These are plumb gigs that are only raising the Hammer brand more and more and considering his chops, stature and looks. It's only a matter of time before he's in the league of Ryan Reynolds for major parts (if only because one could see a similar looking Hammer stepping into the "Green Lantern" role, for instance). No word when this one will go before cameras, but Tom Cruise's green light power is one of the heftiest out there, so it shouldn't be too long. [Deadline]
