We wish we were joking, we really do, but it looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to milk that Governator title until it's bone dry.
Speculation has run rampant about what the action star might do next as he retired from politics and re-enters the entertainment world, with Schwarzenegger himself revealing he was eying at least fifteen different scripts including remakes of "The Terminator," "Predator" and "The Running Man." He also hinted that he was packaging a mysterious comic book property that he was set to reveal at the MIPTV conference in Cannes next month, but EW has beaten him to punch.
Arnie will now return as The Governator, an animated television show and comic book that will be shepherded by none other than Stan Lee. Just the details of this thing sound like a five-minute SNL sketch gone horribly awry.
“The Governator is going to be a great superhero, but he’ll also be Arnold Schwarzenegger,” Lee said. “We’re using all the personal elements of Arnold’s life. We’re using his wife [Maria Shriver]. We’re using his kids. We’re using the fact that he used to be governor. Only after he leaves the governor’s office, Arnold decides to become a crime fighter and builds a secret high-tech crime-fighting center under his house in Brentwood.”
Like Batman, Arnie will have a cave under his mansion and a number of vehicles with which to fight crime with. He'll also have a variety of Super Suits that give him various powers and he'll be helped out by a sidekick named Zeke Muckerberg who is a cyber-security expert (get it!?!?). But here's the best/worst for last. One of the main villains he'll face is an evil organization called Gangsters Imposters Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-cons (or G.I.R.L.I.E. Men, for short).
We're not sure why anyone -- kids or adults alike -- will be interested in this. There is a level of navel gazing here that is nauseating and it sounds like a joke idea for a project that somehow got made into an actual real thing.
“The word Governator combined two worlds: the world of politics and the movie world. And [this cartoon] brings everything together. It combines the governor, the Terminator, the bodybuilding world, the True Lies…” Schwarzenegger said, as tumbleweeds rolled by. He also said, “I love the idea of a control center below my house with a path so that boats and submarines can go right into the ocean. In the cartoon, my house is much closer to the beach than where we live, but, you know, it’s a cartoon.”
We're glad this show will give Arnie the beach front house he always wanted.
