10 Essential Cinematic AntiheroesThe two actors appeared together at the start of their careers in 1983's "Rumble Fish," of course, but that was when they were young, and handsome, and in control of their mental faculties. And they've passed like ships in the night over the years: there was talk that they might both appear in "The Expendables 2," although it never came to pass, while Cage was briefly attached to the lead role in Darren Aronofsky's "The Wrestler" before Rourke came back and won an Oscar nomination for the film. But now, the two actors, locked in a fierce competition as to who can turn down the least work and figure on VoD menus the most, are finally teaming up.
Coming Soon reports that the duo are both now attached to "Marble City," an action-thriller involving "a journey of a newly released prisoner who seeks revenge on those that put him inside. It is the story of a man who finds his inner peace through vengeance." The film's written by newcomer Thomas Sjolund, will be produced by Stealth Media Group ("Margin Call," "Iron Sky"), and directed by Ryuhei Kitamura (the director of "Versus" and "Godzilla: Final Wars", who was also behind "Midnight Meat Train," a film that Bradley Cooper is now hoping no one ever notices he was in), the latter commenting on the film "This is 'Kill Bill' meets 'Drive.'" Three cheers for never having a reference point from more than ten years ago!
Anyway, the possibility of this being a ludicrous, pulpy bit of fun is certainly there, and with Cage and Rourke both on board, Hollywood's reserves of crazy are likely to face a serious test. Production should get underway in August, and chances are that Cage will do some shouting, and that Rourke won't hit his marks without some kind of hideous animal perched on his shoulder.
