Having worked with folks like Steven Spielberg, the Coen Brothers, Paul Thomas Anderson, David Mamet, Gus Van Sant and more, William H. Macy has no shortage of experience to draw on as he makes his feature directorial debut. But first, he'll need to get a cast together and he's done just that.
Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Selena Gomez and Laurence Fishburne have all joined the perhaps too obviously titled "Rudderless" alongside Macy and his wife Felicity Huffman. Not because the project is lacking a captain at the helm, but rather the story centers on a grieving father who forms a band after discovering music written by his late son. No word yet on the various roles, but Crudup has the lead part in the story developed by Macy, Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison, with the latter duo penning the screenplay.
Either way, we're still intrigued to see what Macy can do behind camera (his only other directorial venture was the HBO one off "Lip Service" back in the late 1980s) and it looks promising as he's working with a pretty good group of players. Filming gets underway later in April in Oklahoma. [Variety]
