10 Essential Cinematic AntiheroesDeadline reports that the director has signed on to helm "1952," a project that Disney has been developing, having hired Damon Lindelof ("Lost," "Prometheus") to pen the script last year. What is it? No one knows. The mystery project is being kept tightly under wraps though it's expected to be a sci-fi tentpole, which anyone could have guessed since that's pretty much all the studio does these days. And at any rate it sounds big. The project will continue to develop with plans to shoot it in 2013 with Lindelof producing.
So what on Earth is this about? 1952 was a leap year and a lot of stuff happened, including the detonation of the first hydrogen bomb, the maiden voyage of the SS United States that was looking to break the trans-Atlantic speed record, the United Nations first took residence in their famed New York City building, Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap" began its historic run and killer fog descended on London. But we're guessing "1952" is a fakeout, a working title that has nothing to do (or very little) with the end product. So we'll see, but this is already one helluva pairing.

Brad Bird, I love you. But you need to direct 1906 and/or Ray Gunn ASAP!
