10 Essential Cinematic AntiheroesLena Dunham has been uncomfortably placed in the position of having to diversify her show, “Girls,” or forever field accusations of not having enough, so the writer/creator has fired back with the best choice available – hire Donald Glover. Spotted recently filming the second season of the show, the “Community” star hopefully might bring the same level of meta-awareness to Dunham’s web of race relations that he did with Dan Harmon. Judging from Harmon’s resulting fate though, probably not. [Vulture]
Currently judging the Un Certain Regard jury at Cannes, Tim Roth will have a nice gig to head to afterwards with FX, as the network recently put into development an untitled drama created by the actor with plans to star. “Homeland” co-executive producer Alexander Cary will join Roth in developing the show, which is described as being about “addiction, bank robbery, and an extremely volatile family dynamic.” As it’s just starting, they’re keeping details quiet for the moment, but considering Cary and Roth last worked together on the solid TV show, “Lie to Me,” the results should be plenty worthwhile. Lastly, news came earlier this month that director David Michod had snagged Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce for his newest film, “The Rover,” but it appears he’s taking a change of pace in the run-up to that project’s start date. Filmmaker Mike White recently took to Instagram, where he posted a shot of Michod on-set with the caption, “David Michod (“Animal Kingdom”) directs #Enlightened,” attached. The HBO show, which White created alongside star Laura Dern, is currently shooting its second season, after a consistently funny first season that netted Dern a Golden Globe for her performance.

I hope the Breaking Bad hiatus doesn't result in a meandering first half that turns out to be mostly filler.
