So, is this going to be Casey Affleck's "Zodiac"? Let's hope so, because the material is a no brainer, and getting a major studio interested in something that isn't a four quadrant knock out of the park is no mean feat.
But perhaps feeling bullish as his brother's Oscar contender "Argo" crossed $100 million at the U.S. box office, Warner Bros. has gone ahead and acquired "Boston Strangler" with Affleck to produce and star. Already being compared to Fincher's San Francisco thriller and "Se7en," the script will be penned by Black List approved Chuck Maclean ("Storming Las Vegas") and follow a detective who was part of the Strangler Squad tasked with bringing down the titular serial killer of women, who notched at least 13 victims in the 1960s. And while Albert DeSalvo has commonly been linked to the crimes, theories have abounded that there was more than one killer.
So, yeah, sounds pretty good to us and hopefully this will keep pushing forward. But the next question is: who should direct? [Deadline]
