As of today, "The Amazing Spider-Man" is in theaters, ending the two-and-a-half-year build up to one of the more controversial superhero films in history. Plans for a "Spider-Man 4" were well underway at the end of 2009, with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire both returning for a script (by "Rabbit Hole" writer David Lindsay-Abaire) which saw your friendly neighborhood web-slinger come against classic villain The Vulture (John Malkovich) and his daughter The Vultress (Anne Hathaway). But wary of spiraling costs, bad reviews for the third-installment, and an aging lead (Maguire would have been 36 by the time of the film's summer 2011 release, for a character normally portrayed at half that age), Sony pulled the plug and decided to start all over again, to no little protestations from fans.

"We'll try again," Bill Murray said recently on David Letterman, alluding to the status of the long-gestating "Ghosbusters 3" at Columbia Pictures. And so what's happening with the proposed after-the-fact threequel? Well, while Murray didn't exactly spell it out, recent news seems to confirm all suspicions: the most recent drafts of "Ghostbusters 3" have been thrown in the trash and inveterate "Ghosbusters" champion and producer Dan Aykroyd is starting over.

As you probably know by now, the Jimi Hendrix estate is not too pleased about the currently filming biopic "All Is By My Side," which features hip hop star Andre 3000 in the lead role. But there isn't much they can do about it. As long as the movie doesn't use any songs by the late, legendary musician -- which they would need to get permission for, and which they don't plan to use anyway -- they can pretty much continue as they wish. But the big question thus far is, if they can't use any Hendrix tunes, just what are they going to use?

As if Marvel couldn't top 2012, which has seen them release the blockbuster "The Avengers," start filming "Iron Man 3," and flip the switch on "Guardians Of The Galaxy," they've gone ahead and added Lizzy Caplan to the their cinematic universe. Well done, Marvel, well done.

Over the years, there have been numerous bands and artists that are as synonymous with their work as they are with New York City, and in recent memory few have been more connected to the Big Apple than LCD Soundsystem. James Murphy's celebrated band served as an unofficial soundtrack to the city, the ambition of its youth, the summer nights that blended into the morning, its disappointments and its surprises. As you well know, the band broke up with a helluva goodbye, with a four-hour blowout at Madison Square Garden in February 2011. But the tributes keep rolling in for a band that will not soon be forgotten....

With this week’s release of “The Amazing Spider-Man” -- and "The Dark Knight Rises" just around the corner -- we’re at the halfway point of the summer blockbuster season. But there will be big spectacles to come right through to the end of the year, including Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”

John Sayles is still churning out films on a fairly regular basis, and his most recent effort “Amigo” got its limited release in theaters in August last year. Starring Chris Cooper, Garret Dillahunt and Dane DeHaan (“Chronicle”), the film was moderately well received, but grossed a tiny $184k from its release on a maximum of 10 screens. To say it was small would be an understatement. But such is the state of financing these days where guys like Sayles are left on the sidelines. But, keen to keep his fanbase updated with plans for his next film, Sayles has taken to his blog to speak about his upcoming 18th feature.

So, let's straighten this all out. First there was the BBC hit comedy show "The Inbetweeners," about four young lads who are interested in the kinds of things young lads are usually interested in: alcohol and sex. The show gained a strong following, but no one could have predicted that the "The Inbetweeners Movie" -- released last year and coming to the U.S. in September -- would become the highest growing comedy in the U.K. of all time. And of course, a remake came knocking, with MTV set to unspool the Americanized version of the show in August (get a first look here). But wait, there's more.
