If "A Single Shot" sounds vaguely familiar, it's because it has been on our radar under various guises for some time now. A number of cast members have joined and left the project over the past couple of years, but David M. Rosenthal's film has now made it in front of cameras with Sam Rockwell and William H. Macy (who has stuck with the pic through various incarnations) taking lead roles.

Director Alex Holridge made a splash back in 2007 with his debut feature, "In Search of a Midnight Kiss." That distinctly indie romantic comedy was both written and directed by Holridge and won him an Independent Spirit award as well as cropping up on a number of top ten lists after it's theatrical release in 2008. His sophomore feature is, in some quarters at least, highly anticipated and so it's encouraging to hear that we aren't too far away from seeing it.

In case yesterday's piece about "The Iceman" didn't clue you in, we're big fans of Michael Shannon around here. Last year, the actor shined in Jeff Nichols' psychological drama "Take Shelter," but before they made that film, the duo teamed on Nichols' directorial debut "Shotgun Stories," a beautiful Southern-gothic family drama produced by David Gordon Green.

Make no mistake, there were more than a few concerned fans when last year Warner Bros. tried to put the pieces in place for their long-developing remake of the cult classic "Akira." The project went through two directors in one year (Albert Hughes and Jaume Collet-Serra) before being shut down this past January. From casting that rounded up a bunch of young, familiar and white faces to the setting, which was dropped into New Manhattan, to the concept of splitting the story into two movies, almost every idea being tossed around was met with harsh scrutiny. Even from actors trying out for the gig.

With cameras now rolling on Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring," it seems casting is continuing as smaller roles get filled, although in this case, a pretty big name is lending his face to the movie.
