Despite “Wanted” running up decent domestic grosses, it’s been an unfathomably long -- by Hollywood standards -- four years with no sequel since its initial run. While creatively speaking it seemed like there was no need, or no way, for a sequel to happen -- most of the major characters were killed in the climax, including (SPOILER) Angelina Jolie -- the studio has steadily pushed forward with their plans, and one of the film’s writers recently spoke about the direction they’re taking the film.

As one of our team wrote yesterday about "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey": "I for one will be happy to pull up some popcorn and sit down for 2 ½ (and hopefully not more) hours with moderately tempered expectations and enjoy what I can." It looks like he might want to put his ass into training, as Peter Jackson has revealed the runtime for the first movie in the trilogy and, not surprisingly, it's very, very long.

It's almost that time again.... Arriving like clockwork, it seems every year or so we get another Nicholas Sparks movie adaptation (in 2010 we were lucky enough to get two movies based on his books!). And for his fanbase that likes to hear a variation on the same mediocre, manipulative story over and and over and over and over again, "Safe Haven" will be a warm, vanilla pillow of familiarity and fake emotion.

Just a couple of days ago, it was revealed that Hasbro posted their latest sales records, and earnings were down compared to last year. The culprit? Sales of "Transformers" toys had declined among other things. And while a new movie guarantees an uptick in toy sales, it's also about getting that core audience to care with an effort that will also appeal to those who may not know their Autobots from Decepticons. And while the first three movies in the franchise were massively successful, each making more than the last, it appears that Michael Bay and co. what to take their game even higher, courting a bonafide star to possibly lead the next installment.

Though at 35 years old, Fiona Apple has yet to grapple with turning the big four zero, she has certainly channeled her fair share of pain through her songs. And undoubtedly some of that will come through in her contribution to the soundtrack of Judd Apatow's upcoming "This Is 40."

With five Oscar nominations and two wins, it's safe to say that Denzel Washington is well resepcted by his peers. And with the first batch of reviews for "Flight" mostly giving the picture a thumbs up, Washington could find himself back at the Dolby Theater in just a few months.

As the festival season wore on in 2012, one movie we kept hoping would pop up at Venice, Telluride, Toronto, London or Rome, was Jonathan Glazer's long awaited "Under The Skin." The film shot last year, and has been in post-production even since and we figured it might cross the finish line soon, but it appears there is still more work to be done on the movie.

Here's how indie movies sneak up on you. This was announced way back in the spring of 2011, before "Homeland" became a big hit, and thus when we saw a new movie with Claire Danes, we sorta just shrugged our shoulders and moved on. But the actress is back in a big way thanks to the hit series (which just got renewed for a third season), and undoubtedly many more eyes will now be on her indie feature "As Cool As I Am," which Radiant Films has just picked up the sales rights for.
