As everyone from Anthony Mann to Kelly Reichardt have triumphantly shown, the film western remains a prime framework from which to branch out into a dozen different eccentricities. Screenwriter S. Craig Zahler has already found that out once -- having attracted the likes of Park Chan Wook to direct his unique 2006 Black List script, “The Brigands of Rattleborge” -- but now he's looking to try his own hand at subverting the genre, and he's assembled a rather killer cast to accompany him along the way.

It’s no secret that Tom Hanks as a producer is fond of looking at the past, whether through the prism of the space race, in “From The Earth To The Moon,” or through war -- specifically World War II -- as in companion pieces “Band Of Brothers” and “The Pacific.” Now, Hanks will set his sights on one of the most traumatic events in American history, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, with “Parkland,” which has cast its leads.

Amid yesterday's massive announcement that Disney handed over $4.05 billion to call LucasFilm their own, the immediate predictions of such a merger's result have established a firmly forward-looking perspective. However, that keen attitude toward the “Star Wars” franchise may have overlooked some past decisions of LucasFilm's that could come back to haunt Disney, as the two industry giants now face from Fox a bit of thorny issue of rights over the film that started it all.

Director Bryan Singer probably wasn't envisioning coming back to the "X-Men" series this soon. At least not until the potential"X-Men 4" film. Still early in development, that picture isn't arriving anytime soon, but obviously that notion was being explored. Instead, Singer was busy executive producing his many TV shows and the "X-Men" series as relaunched and spearheaded by Matthew Vaughn, with "X-Men: First Class." But Vaughn left the director's chair on that series last week and much like Peter Jackson, who stepped in to take over his baby and helm "The Hobbit" after Guillermo del Toro left the project, Singer is jumping back in the pole position.

Of course, there's the announcement today of the new "Star Wars" trilogy coming for your wallet starting in 2015, and just yesterday, Quentin Tarantino revealed his upcoming "Django Unchained" might be the middle part of trilogy sandwich starting with "Inglorious Basterds." Well, until we find out if that will actually happen or will be a continual question mark like "Kill Bill 3," some new pics from "Django Unchained" have dropped.

During the an investor conference call  following the mind blowing news that Disney has purhcased LucasFilm, the focus of the conversation between studio honchos and financial types assessing the purchase were all about branding, branding, branding, branding and essentially leveraging "Star Wars" as much as possibly into a money generating property for years and years to come. Did you know that Walter Salles and screenwriter Jose Rivera have three more unproduced screenplays? Or that Rivera isn't exactly thrilled that some of the lines in "On The Road" were adlibbed? Or that Salles was contractually obligated to bring in an edit of two hours? In case you missed it, those are some of the fascinating highlights from Rivera's presentation of the movie at BAM over the weekend and you can read our full recap right here. And after you've done that, take a look at the below...
