For cinephiles at least, one of the most anticipated releases of the summer is the Keanu Reeves-produced documentary “Side By Side,” not only for its essential film vs. digital debate, but even more for the incredible behind-the-scenes talent lined up for interviews. Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh, and Christopher Nolan all make appearances in the film, and now Tribeca Films have released the latest in their series of outtakes, this time featuring the inimitable director of “Avatar” and “Titanic.”

Aaron Johnson’s Kick-Ass is returning to the big screen for a second outing, and new director Jeff Wadlow looks to be gathering a head of steam in terms of casting the sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s alternative superhero movie. Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and even Nicolas Cage (in a rumoured cameo role) all look set to return for “Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall,” and the task of filling the huge amount of supporting roles from Mark Millar’s twisted comic book sequel is now well underway.

For all his prolific work across a number of mediums, James Franco's ability to write and direct is, for the most part, still an unknown quantity. He's done a few shorts, and two documentaries, but his three feature films so far -- the comedy "The Ape," the Sal Mineo biopic "Sal," and Hart Crane tale "The Broken Tower" -- haven't exactly become big hits or critical favorites. However, his latest endeavor might change that.

Well, well, look who's primed for a big screen comeback? With the mini-series "Hatfields & McCoys" bringing in massive ratings and critical acclaim, and a role in the upcoming "Man Of Steel," it seems studios are ready to be back in business with the man who was once a no-brainer box office draw. As reported a couple of weeks ago, Kevin Costner was kicking the tires on a role in Kenneth Branagh's untitled Jack Ryan reboot. Well not only has he signed on, taking the role of William Harper, who recruits and trains Chris Pine's Jack Ryan, if all goes according to the plan, it won't be the last we see of the character.

It's back to square one for Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's ambitious adaptation of "The Dark Tower." Even with Russell Crowe eyeing to take over the lead, and a reduced budget, it seems it wasn't enough for Warner Bros. to pull the trigger on the project, leaving the future of it ever getting made -- at least in this incarnation -- in doubt.
