"Game of Thrones" has two things on its mind this week: love makin' and procreatin', and the result is an episode that's operating at a very different speed than the rest of the season. We barely see any of our regulars both old and new, and got to see a lot more of Danaerys Targaryen (like, literally A LOT) and spend some time celebrating the kickoff of wedding season in Westeros. It's once again directed by the excellent Michelle MacLaren, who helmed last week's episode, and really has an eye for staging and an ability to play with pace and focus, resting on characters for an extended period of time, rather than hopping around, which serves the latter half of this season well (also sexy time. And ass). So let's pour some wine and raise a toast to Episode 8, "Second Sons."

This week concluded the yearly "up-fronts," where advertisers and affiliates convene in New York City so that the various networks can trot out their exciting new fall products. It brings an end to "pilot season," in which initial episodes are furiously produced and then handily judged, and kicks off the excitement for the following fall. (Even though, as we're becoming increasingly aware, the traditional notions of when shows are supposed to air and how long they're supposed to be are blurring considerably.) Out of all of the new shows – dozens and dozens of hours of freshly scripted content – we have chosen the ten shows that we find the most promising; five hour-long dramas and five sitcoms. Don't change that dial.

You would think with two movies coming this year -- "Machete Kills" and "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" -- that would be more than enough on Robert Rodriguez's plate. But that would be to misunderstand the work ethic of the filmmaker, who always seems to be juggling a half dozen different things at any given moment, so even while he's got two features arriving within a month of each other, he's already looking toward the small screen for yet another venture.

Last year, Alec Baldwin and director James Toback hit the Croisette, not to premiere a movie, but to try and raise financing for one. They brought along some cameras to help document the effort for what would ultimately become the documentary, "Seduced And Abandoned," an insider's inside look at the fickle game of film financing and the movie biz in general. Now they're back a year later in Cannes with the finished product, set to unveil in a special screening next weekend, but what is this whole thing all about?

After a protracted period trying to get a movie off the ground, only for it to stall and falter for a variety of reason, Fox has finally found a way to revive "24," and sometimes the best solution is also the easiest one: they're bringing it back to TV. That's right, after rumors started burbling late last week that Jack Bauer might be returning to kick ass once again, today the studio has confirmed that more white knuckle thrills are in the cards.

Um, WUT, this episode RULED. High fives, all around my people. It had everything: Khaleesi being awesome with dragons, lots of sweet, sweet ass, zingers galore, and a muthafuckin' BEAR FIGHT y'all. Directed by frequent "Breaking Bad" helmer Michelle McLaren, it was everything "Game of Thrones" wants to be and more -- sexy, bloody, and damn exciting. They were probably giving us all of this lovey dovey stuff to tide us over for the inevitable last-third-of-the-season-carnage we are about to experience. But for the moment, Episode 7 feels like makin' love, feels like makin' love to youuuuuu.

It's been seven far-too-long years since the last feature effort from Christopher Guest, and besides a failed pilot for the U.S. adaptation of the U.K. hit "The Thick Of It" and appearing alongside his regular roster players in a sketch for the 2012 Oscars, not much as been heard from him. But the writer/director is back at HBO with "Family Tree," a new comedy series that finds him back within the faux-doc aesthetic (which seemingly every sitcom uses now) and best of all, still retaining his touch for beautifully deadpan humor, rich wordplay and characters as odd as they are lovable too. In short, Guest hasn't lost a step.
