10 Essential Cinematic Antiheroes
Indie film cinephiles haven't seen it yet, but likely on their radar is Max Winkler‘s feature debut “Ceremony.” Starring Michael Angarano and Uma Thurman, the dramedy tells the story of Sam (Angarano), a brazen young man who stalks his penpal and ex-girlfriend Zoe (Thurman) all the way to her wedding in the Hamptons to try and win her back. It's a charming, sweet little film (which yes, the filmmakers admit is indebted to Wes Anderson, they're ok with that), the least of which are not the film's excellent supporting cast of Lee Pace, Jake Johnson and Reece Thompson. As we revealed last year, the film also features a great classic rock soundtrack and a Paul Simon cover ("Papa Hobo") recorded by Vampire Weekend singer Ezra Koenig. As we also unveiled first, Eric D. Johnson from the Fruit Bats wrote the score along with Van Dyke Parks who contributed some musical elements to the film as well. The soundtrack deets have now arrived. The 16-track album arrives April 12 and on top of 10 original Johnson tracks the film features songs by Pete Townsend, Ringo Starr, Eric Burdon & The Animals and General Public.
Tracklist below the jump.
Here's the trailer for the film if you haven't seen it yet. "Ceremony" film hits VOD on March 4th and heads to theaters on April 8th. You can read what up-and-coming director Max Winkler is up to next (and what's still gestating for a minute) and you can stay tuned for more from that interview closer to the April 8th theatrical date.
