Channing Tatum & Mila Kunis Offered Leads In The Wachowskis 'Jupiter Ascending'

With Natalie Portman recently signing on to spend most the year hanging with Terrence Malick on the probably-not-called-"Lawless"-anymore and "Knight Of Cups," it looks like her rumored appearance in The Wachowskis "Jupiter Ascending" won't work out. But her "Black Swan" co-star and another currently red hot star are now being lined up.

Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum -- currently riding very high off the double whammy of hits "The Vow" and "21 Jump Street" -- have been offered the leads in the brewing, mysterious film. Details are tightly under wraps, but as their bonkers R-rated gay romance Iraq war movie has had trouble getting off the ground (hardly surprising), the sibling duo are pushing ahead with this sci-fi project. Right now, about the only thing that is known is that it will shoot later this year, and while at one time The Wachowskis were willing to wait for Portman (who starred in "V For Vendetta" which they produced, and was lined up for a small role in "Cloud Atlas" in early stages), with the actress now shooting wheat fields with Malick, they are moving on.

It's hard to really comment on this at all, knowing nothing about it. We like both Kunis and Tatum, and it's easy to see why both of them would be enticed to take this on, and this would be new territory for both. And from a studio perspective, Warner Bros. looks eager to fill the role with two younger skewing stars. More likely and hopefully to come soon. [Deadline]

We shot this rumour down on natalieportman.com in January. Maybe the rumour started from some Black Swan doppelganger confusion :-)

Hope the film turns out great though. The Wachowski's are due to knock one out of the park again.

I was just reading the Star Market on Vulture and I came across the Mila Kunis article. In it, the writer states that Kunis is "behind" actresses like Carey Mulligan (yes, I agree), Rooney Mara (yes, I agree... a little), Olivia Wilde (fuck no), and Blake Lively (fuckin' fuck no). The fact that she got offered a lead role in a Wachowskis' film is pretty big. Yes, they are a bit wacky and their work is somewhat hit-or-miss but clearly Kunis is doing something right. She has "Ted", the Oz film, and possibly this movie lined up as well as the other huge ensemble one that I can't remember the title of. I'm just baffled that Vulture thought she was behind the likes of 2 mediocre/hardly in-demand actresses. UGH.

And for the record KT, reading that star market article and then coming across this release- I had some serious emotions to get out. It made no sense that she was paired (or to be exact coined as "behind") with actresses who have yet to have a lead role/breakout moment (Wilde, Lively). I would passionately argue for many actors/actresses that I believe are much more credible than a few C-list celebs who have great PR reps that make sure their name is on every casting list.
