While we were a touch disappointed by the teaser trailer, we're still pretty amped to see Guillermo Del Toro
's monsters vs. robots epic "Pacific Rim
." In part because it's the "Pan's Labyrinth
" director's first film in five years. In part, it's because it has ROBOTS FIGHTING MONSTERS. And in part, it's because of the sheer confidence that everyone involves seems to be showing. Warners have already commissioned a script for a sequel
, and now, Del Toro has shown that he's happy with the job that his lead in the film, Charlie Hunnam
, has done: by casting him in his next movie.
According to Variety
, Hunnam is in talks to star in Del Toro's next picture, the gothic ghost story romance "Crimson Peak
." Assuming the talks pay off, he'd join Emma Stone
, who was revealed to be circling the project earlier in the week
. Exact plot details are still under wraps, but Del Toro, in our interview from earlier in the week
, stated that the film is "is a gothic romance. I don't mean that there's going to be a guy who appears with a dozen flowers singing in the balcony, what I mean is that, in the most classical definition of the term, it's a gothic romance. It's got a lot of darkness and sound and fury and drama and stormy; but at the core of it is a scary movie."
Anyway, it's an exciting prospect, and while we're not quite as thrilled with Hunnam's addition as we were with Stone, we're not the ones who've seen his work in "Pacific Rim," so we'll certainly give Del Toro the benefit of the doubt here. Shooting on "Crimson Peak" isn't meant to get underway until February 2014, so anything could happen before then, but all being well, we'll likely see "Crimson Peak" sometime in 2015.
