Chris Hemsworth Goes Into Stephen Gaghan's 'Candy Store'

Wait, we thought this dude was too busy? Having just dropped CBS Film's "American Assassin" due to "scheduling," this bit of news seems a bit odd. But we suppose the lure of winning with the Oscar-nominated writer of "Traffic" is a lure that's hard to resist. Toss in the potential to work with some bonafide A-listers? We understand.

The Wrap reports that Chris Hemsworth is now attached to star in the writer/director's brewing directorial effort "Candy Store." The project has had Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz all circling or being offered roles with Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Bradley Cooper all on the wishlist as well, if their first choices pass on the gig. We have to say, the material sounds strong as well, with the story following a deep cover agent who loses everything and starts over as a beat cop in Brooklyn. He discovers the organized operation he was trying to bring down is alive and kicking right under his nose.

No word on when this might lens, but it would presumably have to either be squeezed in between "Thor 2" and "Robopocalypse," or simply wait for the actor to be done with latter. So this could still be a long way off. Morever, Hemsworth has more offers on the table, including a role in a brewing Steve McQueen biopic titled "Triumph" (his brother also has an offer for the part). But between this and Ron Howard's forthcoming "Rush," it looks Hemsworth is ready to establish himself as more than just a guy who can wield a mighty hammer.

Monica, it is obvious you have an axe to grind. Is Hemsworth a great actor? No not quite, but he has shown competence and can only get better in time. I guess you missed the parts in Snow White and Thor where his characters broke down emotionally. Or in Star Trek where he sacrifices himself for the greater good. He has definitely shown some range and he probably reminds you of the hot jock who rejected you in high school so you feel compelled to keep dissing him. Get over it and move on.

Agree with you, Dan. IÂ´m glad he gets better and better offers and is smart enough to choose really interesting and chellanging parts. I think thatÂ´s what he really wants and i respect him for that. Monica, he surely was one of the best things of Snowhite, in Thor alone he displayed a range other actors donÂ´t have in years and for many people his 10 min. in Star Trek were one of the most remarkable parts of the movie.

Where? In Snow White and the Huntsman? He was the same as always in this movie. The same expressions, the same way of walking and talking. Please, you must not watch many movies to say that he can act.

He can act. People just like to crap on him because he plays an over-the-top superhero and he has muscles and we all know muscles=lack of acting ability in most insecure movie goer's minds. If you get over your bias, he has displayed potential and has risen above poorly written material.
