10 Essential Cinematic AntiheroesSmulders has been talking about the upcoming sequel “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and although it was announced last year that her character will appear, she’s not yet sure of the details. “I’ve seen parts of [the script], but yeah I don’t know much. This is Marvel! They don’t let you know anything. It’s very watermarked scripts, heavily watermarked. Yeah, they don’t let you know like the day of, but they are very secretive and I think they are still figuring stuff out. I don’t know the exact dates [filming begins]. I know it’s some time in March or June,” she told I Am Rogue.
That tallies with what we’ve heard about the film so far, with Toby Jones only recently being able to confirm his involvement, and with film’s love interest yet to be cast. In fact, if the script still is in flux, than we wouldn’t be surprised if either Smulders or Black Widow become the love interest in this one, with Peggy Carter being held back until part three.
During the same interview, Smulders was also asked about her potential involvement in the upcoming “S.H.I.E.L.D.” TV series, which Joss Whedon is also shepherding, and it sounds promising, and she won't have to worry about her sitcom gig getting in the way. “The commitments to ['How I Met Your Mother'] don’t affect it. And I can’t really say, but there are definite talks about it.” We already know that the series will take place post “The Avengers,” and that Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson will appear, so we’re intrigued with the plans Whedon has for this one. Placing Smulders in it would also seem like a safe bet, and help further integrate the series with the big screen universe, and it’s encouraging that HIMYM doesn’t seem to be holding its talented cast back too much.
