So, just how kick ass is Philip Seymour Hoffman? Just a few weeks ago he was making headlines for checking himself back into rehab after a relapse into drug addiction led to him to snorting heroin. And today, dude is back at work like a boss and helping make an already great sounding project even better.

Deadline reports that Hoffman is going to be joining Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, Joel Kinnaman, Paddy Considine and Fares Fares in "Child 44." The poster for this pretty much designs itself. Getting a producer's touch by Ridley Scott, with "Safe House" helmer Daniel Espinosa behind the camera and a script by Richard Price ("The Wire," "Clockers"), the adaptation of Tom Rob Smith's novel follows a disgraced MGB agent (Hardy) in the 1950s Soviet Union investigating a prolific child murderer who may have connections going to the very top of the party leadership. No word yet on this role.

Production is already underway, Summit will release the movie probably next year, so just tell us the date so we can mark our calendar. It looks Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" is getting a run for its money for 2014 cast of the year...

First of all this Paula Dean and her boys have been caught saying stupid shit for years. Listen to the many clips found over the years from the Howard Stern's Satellite program and you would just fire this bitch for being stupid in general. It's the dumbing down of America!

So Paula Deen says the N word DECADES ago and she gets fired. Hoffman shots up heroin and gets to keep his job. What a double standard. They should have both been given some unpaid time off, learned from it and get to keep their positions. Frankly, I'll take someone who uses the N word over someone who is out of their mind high on drugs. More people die from illegal drug use than the N word. And how is Hoffman NOT IN JAIL? Where are the police? They should raid his house and arrest him.

If you're going to make me think of the word Nigger, have the balls to fucking say it.

  • ak | June 26, 2013 5:53 PM

Because drug use is an illness not a crime. She's a bigot. You can't compare these two issues. Who cares about Deen?

  • Tater Salad | June 26, 2013 5:40 PM

Heroin is his own body. Paula Deen spewed her feeble minded stupidity outwardly towards others, big difference.

Its only a little bit of heroin, geeze.

    Haha, the headline is perfect.

seriously no film has a better cast than pta's inherent vice

  • BEF | June 26, 2013 11:36 AM

I was gonna say the same thing ... Phoenix, Brolin, Penn, Del Toro alone trump all ... plus there's something fun like Martin Short in there.

@LOU hopefully, they both get the help they need, regardless who you like more.

I'm not trying to compare Lindsay Lohan to PS Hoffman, but why is it we praise him for attempting to work through his addiction and condemn her? Even though both of them have multiple stints in rehab.

  • Hightower | June 26, 2013 12:40 PM

People condemn her because she repeatedly displays that she has no intelligence, has had multiple arrests and rehab visits. And also because she has no talent, she was in a few films as the star and has done nothing of note. Comparing Lindsey Lohan to RDJ and Hoffman is ridiculous those two people are talented lindsay lohan isn't, she just needs to get out of the public eye and sort her life out.

We save our redemption stories for men -- Robert Downey, Jr., Rob Lowe, etc. If Winona Ryder were a man she'd have her own Iron Woman brand after shoplifting ... but we collectively hold women more in contempt as stars. Lindsay Lohan is being court ordered into rehab, but hey, so was RDJr and he came out and got the best role he'd gotten in a decade -- "Wonder Boys" -- which I think is great, I'm all for rewarding redemptive stories, but Hollywood is such a boys club and females are so largely discardable and not allowed to age, well, you get my point...

  • Lou | June 25, 2013 11:33 PM

People condemn her because she has yet to show that she's actually serious about getting better. A few years out of the spotlight would probably do her a world of good.
