Dan Aykroyd Now Says 'Ghostbusters 3’ Will Shoot Next Spring

Here's he goes again. When Dan Aykroyd showed up on “The Today Show” this week to discuss his new film “Get On Up,” talk of course eventually turned to the "Ghostbusters" series, and in particular "Ghostbusters 3." Never one to miss a moment to ensure everyone that the movie is happening, he now says the paranormal franchise sequel would shoot next week.

Here's he goes again. When Dan Aykroyd showed up on “The Today Show” this week to discuss his new film “Get On Up,” talk of course eventually turned to the "Ghostbusters" series, and in particular "Ghostbusters 3." Never one to miss a moment to ensure everyone that the movie is happening (remember when he predicted two more movies?) or talk about plot details, he now says the paranormal franchise sequel would shoot next year.

"It looks like we'll be in pre-production in the spring now, from what I'm hearing," he told Carson Daly. "It should be good." But there is still not much known about who will be involved.

Earlier this year, Ivan Reitman confirmed that he would not direct ‘GBIII,’ and a few young directors have circled the project since. Phil Lord and Chris Miller decided not to tackle the franchise two weeks after we reported they were in the running for the relaunch job. And last month, Ruben Fleischer was rumored to be in the running to direct. We haven’t heard anything about Fleischer’s involvement since, but since he directed Bill Murray in “Zombieland,” which spurred Murray on to don his Ghostbusters gear at the Scream Awards in 2010, perhaps Fleischer is the just the guy to lasso the very reluctant Murray back into the fold for part three. Or at least take on the movie.

Last summer Rick Moranis said that while Ghostbusters 2” was a “disappointment” for him, he would still return if the script was good. In light of Harold Ramis’ death earlier this year, perhaps Louis Tully’s status as a Ghostbuster at the end of the second film could push the character into ‘core’ GB status, with a bigger role in the third film in lieu of the beloved scientist Egon Spengler or the absent Peter Venkman (Murray really doesn't want to come back).
