Formerly called "The Twylight Zones," then going without a title for a while, it looks like the upcoming period-based music movie from "The Sopranos" creator David Chase has a fresh moniker, and it's one keeping very much in line with the backbeat of the film.

In the latest issue of Vanity Fair (via Hollywood Elsewhere) it's revealed that the film will now be called "Not Fade Away." Starring Jack Huston, Will Brill, John Magaro, Brad Garrett, Bella Heathcote, James Gandolfini and Lisa Lampanelli, the film is a coming-of-age tale about three Italian-American kids, (Magaro, Brill, Huston) who form a rock band in the 1960s. And this new title is a significant nod to that premise: "Not Fade Away" is of course the massive hit song by Buddy Holly from 1957, that was memorably covered by The Rolling Stones in 1964 (an arguably better version than the original). But the song itself is rooted in a rhythm structure from back before both bands, commonly associated with Bo Diddley.

The film is has been rumored for Cannes, though with an October 12th release date now inked, we think a fall festival bow is probably more likely. Hopefully we'll start getting a taste of the film soon (that set photo above is all we could find) but until then, listen to both the Buddy Holly and Rolling Stones versions of the song below.
