Details On Plan B's Soundtrack To His Directorial Debut 'iLL Manors' Emerge, Features Rapper Kano

While he may not be quite as well known on this side of the pond, over in the U.K. Plan B aka Ben Drew, is something of a big deal. As a rapper he first made waves with the mixtape Paint It Blacker, before making his debut with Who Needs Action When You Got Words. But it was his transition to soul with The Defamation Of Strickland Banks that landed him on the charts in a big way, but music isn't his only endeavor. This year the enterprising 28 year-old made his feature film directorial debut with "iLL Manors," an uneven but admirable drama that look at the lives of troubled youth (our review). But always multi-tasking, he's got the soundtrack for the movie finally on the way.

Set to hit the street later this month "iLL Manors" boasts 11 new tracks from the rapper, produced by Al Shux (Jay-Z, Lana Del Ray). While it's a mix of tunes featured, influenced and inspired by the movie (yeah, it's one of those) he teams up with a handful of collaborators including Labrinth, John Cooper Clarke, Takura Tendayi and grime veteran Kano. And it's a busy time for Ben Drew, who also has some lives dates coming up and press rounds for "The Sweeney" with Ray Winstone which hits U.K. cinemas in September.

"iLL Manors" hits on July 23rd. No word yet on a U.S. release for the disc or film just yet. [Stereoboard]
