A couple of small-screen updates, with some news from someone who has already had success on TV, and the return of a sitcom that was a favorite of a certain genration.
First up, even as she works in post on her directorial debut, Diablo Cody is multitasking, selling a pilot script for "Alex + Amy" to ABC. The concept? The story centers on the relationship between a 22 year-old Millenial and a 32 year-old Gen X woman. Hijinks! We really hope this doesn't mean a show where the jokes are centered around one person liking the vinyl and the other preferring an iPad, but we presume that'll be the general tone and that it will show the difference between growing up the '80s and '90. Shrug for now, but then again, these things never appear all that promising on paper. Who would've though that Cody's pal Liz Meriweather's adorkable "The New Girl" would become such a big hit?
Speaking of Millenials, they no doubt will be intrigued by this bit of news. ABC's TGIF staple "Boy Meets World" is getting dusted off for The Disney Channel, and being reinvigorated with a sequel series entitled -- "Girl Meets World." How far we've come. Original series stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel (Cory and Topanga, of course) are in early talks to reprise their roles, playing the married couple to the preteen daughter who would lead the new show. It's not like Savage and Fishel's careers have since skyrocketed -- they've worked steadily, though not particularly memorably -- and we could see them coming back. And while we generally disdain this sort of thing, "Boy Meets World" was so good-natured, if it can do the same thing again for tweenage girls, who are we to be grumps about it? [EW/TVLine]
