While doing the press rounds for this month’s sci-fi sequel “Men in Black III,” certifiable genius make-up designer Rick Baker let slip that he’s already hard at work on Disney’s eagerly anticipated “Maleficent,” a take on the studio's classic animated “Sleepy Beauty” as told through the iconic sorceress’ point of view. That sorceress, of course, is being played by Angelina Jolie. “They’re just starting that now,” Baker told ComingSoon.net. “I designed the make-up for Angelina Jolie. At this point, I’m actually finished with that part of it.”

Absent from the director's chair for nearly a decade, Billy Bob Thornton is on a tear behind the camera. Last spring he unveiled his Willie Nelson documentary "The King Of Luck," and he's currently in Berlin premiering his latest effort "Jayne Mansfield's Car." And it seems he's been doing some wheeling and dealing as well, as he's already lined up his next effort behind the camera.

Given her omnipresence in the media, it's easy to forget that Angelina Jolie hasn't actually appeared on screen for eighteen months, since the ill-fated "The Tourist." She's not been idle -- far from it, with voice work in "Kung Fu Panda 2" and her directorial debut "In The Land Of Blood and Honey" landing in 2011. But given that she's one of the few actresses who are able to get a project greenlight solely on their name, her absence from starring roles has surely been felt in certain quarters.

Everyone’s gotta start somewhere. And when you're starting out, you’re cheaper and easier to control, right? The fiscally responsible trends continue in Hollywood: hiring cheap, inexpensive filmmakers to helm tentpole-like pictures. And/or you can look at it in the glass half-full way: studios taking a chance on young, up-and-coming talent. Oh, don’t be so naïve. Kidding… sort of.

Angelina Jolie was only 17 when the Bosnian war broke out -- when the nascent countries of Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia took up against each other in a bitter conflict that lasted four years and left 100,000 people dead -- but she considers it "the war of my generation, to my generation." It's the subject of her directorial debut "In the Land of Blood and Honey," which features an all-Bosnian cast, several of whom joined Jolie in New York for a press day to share what it was like working on such an intense project.

Angelina Jolie's presence in "In the Land of Blood and Honey," a film she directed but wisely chose not to star in, is both a gift and a curse. On the gift end, it's a megawatt star bringing some serious attention to an incident in our recent history that has either been glossed over, underreported, barely acknowledged or forgotten about completely – the atrocities in Bosnia and Herzegovina that brought ethnic cleansing back to Europe for the first time since World War II. Conversely, there will be those who claim, since Jolie is fabulous and wealthy and drop-dead sexy (besides being a U.N. ambassador and outspoken human rights advocate), that she has no business portraying what is still an incredibly raw part of the very recent past. For the most part, though, Jolie tells a compelling, tragic story, framed inside of an unlikely romance, and pulls it off without pulling any punches.

With neither Angelina Jolie's "In The Land Of Blood And Honey" or Luc Besson's "The Lady" looking like big awards season players this year, it seems the pair have decided to say "Fuck it" to chasing statues and are going to go back in getting some asses in seats.
