Parkland, Efron
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, undoubtedly one of the central flashpoints of the modern American experience and a singular event that has inspired as much theorizing, speculation, and conjecture as any in history. Perhaps it is a result of its insolubility that it retains such an ability to capture our imagination endlessly, whatever the reason, the books and films keep on coming. The latest in JFK-assassination-related ephemera is "Parkland," a drama that looks at the events immediately following the president's murder, through a prism of characters who were on the ground in Dallas. The large ensemble includes Zac Efron, Paul Giamatti (as Zapruder!), Billy Bob Thornton, James Badge Dale, Jacki Weaver, Colin Hanks and Marcia Gay Harden. Now the first clip and a bunch of stills have been unveiled, so start your theorizing.

It was only last year that Billy Bob Thornton expressed a sure opinion when he confirmed a sequel to the 2003 film “Bad Santa,” and true to his word, the project has steadily been rolling along. Dimension Films even hired two separate writers, John Rosenthal and John Phillips, to deliver competing scripts to ensure maximum comedy potential, but as the film finally finds a director at the forefront, it also finds the same man giving another pass at the text.

But over in Australia, the movie will be landing on DVD and Blu-ray in early 2013 and the first trailer to get the word out has arrived.

Contrary to his fearsomely eccentric reputation, we are happy to report that in person, writer/director/actor Billy Bob Thornton is a charmer. Attending The Berlin Film Festival for the premiere of his first directorial outing in over a decade "Jayne Mansfield's Car" (you can read our review here), he won over press left and right with his mixture of soft-spoken Southern gentlemanliness, and frank rebuttals of some of the more outre rumours that have dogged him throughout his career.

It has been a while since we heard anything about the long developing "Bad Santa 2," the sequel to the hit R-rated comedy that has yet to be topped for holiday raunch. Nearly a year ago it was confirmed that Billy Bob Thornton would be returning to reprise the role of Willie, while over the summer it was revealed that Dimension Films had hired two writers -- Johnny Rosenthal and John Phillips -- to each write separate scripts with the winning screenplay getting the thumbs up to go into production. Well, things have been quiet for a while but it looks like "Bad Santa 2" may finally be going in front of cameras.

Absent from the director's chair for nearly a decade, Billy Bob Thornton is on a tear behind the camera. Last spring he unveiled his Willie Nelson documentary "The King Of Luck," and he's currently in Berlin premiering his latest effort "Jayne Mansfield's Car." And it seems he's been doing some wheeling and dealing as well, as he's already lined up his next effort behind the camera.

No, this isn't "The Grey 2" but it might as well be. If Liam Neeson and a bunch of dudes fleeing some wolves in "The Grey" isn't enough for now, another man vs. nature tale is on the way, albeit with a slightly more B-level cast.
