With "Bond 24" slated to hit theaters in eighteen months, it looks like the script to the movie is getting one last polish. John Logan has been working on it for a while now, but some veterans of the series are once again coming back to "punch up" the screenplay and add more jokes. Hmm....

If there were a Bro Code for business, it would dictate that a career shared with one’s sibling is likely to be a good call. This fraternal model has had an illustrious history, from Marx to Coen to Farrelly (and to a lesser extent, Lehman). And so it is for Chris and Paul Weitz, whose "American Pie" redefined the teenage-boy-and-his-friend’s-mother-who’s-still-got-it dynamic, and simultaneously dealt an awkward blow to America’s baked goods industry.

Chris Weitz knows a thing or two about franchises. He helped kick off the "American Pie" series, dipped his toes in "The Twilight Saga" with "New Moon" and tried get things moving with "The Golden Compass," a less-than-pleasurable experience that he has spoken quite candidly about. But Weitz's next effort will find him fully in control of what goes on in the story, though it will be in a new medium for the filmmaker.

Boy, Disney are keen for us not to give up on their new live-action version of "Cinderella." When first announced a couple of years ago, we were pretty ho-hum: fairy-tale movies were already ten-a-penny after the success of "Alice in Wonderland", and the creative team of producer Simon Kinberg ("Jumper," "This Means War") and writer Aline Brosh McKenna ("The Devil Wears Prada," "Morning Glory") wasn't especially enticing. But last year, the studio announced that "Never Let Me Go" helmer Mark Romanek was attached to direct, and suddenly we got interested.

EXCLUSIVE: In case you missed the memo, MGM is back from the brink, and heading into the New Year, they are very busy. With major productions "The Hobbit" and "Skyfall" underway, the studio is now focusing on a number of other projects they have in the works, and putting particular attention on a movie that could spawn a new franchise.

Chris Weitz, Alfonso Cuaron Also Allegedly In The Running"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" might have made the much-mocked second and third Gore Verbinski-helmed entries in the series look like masterpieces in comparison, but audiences don't seem to care much -- especially internationally, moviegoers love them some Johnny Depp and it's already raked in a staggering $650 million in less than two weeks in release. Inevitably, this means that talk is turning to a fifth installment, a script for which has already been commissioned by Disney from Terry Rossio, who with partner Ted Elliott wrote all four installments to date.

After spending some time in the tentpole world directing "The Golden Compass" and "Twilight: New Moon," director Chris Weitz has shifted gears for his next film, turning in a low-key drama that, from the first trailer debuted by 24 Frames, looks to be a winner.

It's been a while since Chris Weitz has done anything low-key like "About A Boy." He followed that film with two tentpole efforts -- "The Golden Compass" and "Twilight: New Moon" -- with the former leaving a bad taste in his mouth (he said New Line treated him like dirt. Ouch.) And while the mega success of 'New Moon' was the ultimate fuck you to New Line -- and while he was contemplating the director's chair for "Breaking Dawn," he ultimately didn't do it saying that "my mind would explode" if he entered a third tentpole film.

Also Scoring Chris Weitz's 'The Gardener'So we are just over five months away from the likely Cannes debut and theatrical release of Terrence Malick's "The Tree Of Life." The film, pretty much the closest thing the arthouse world will ever get to a blockbuster, stars heavyweights Brad Pitt and Sean Penn in a decades-spanning tale about a father/son relationship and also the mysteries of the universe. The trailer for the film is currently in theaters playing in front of "Black Swan" but don't expect it go online anytime soon as Fox Searchlight plans to piecemeal stills and info about the project in the run-up to the release. So with that in mind, we'll take whatever info we can and the latest bit of news comes from the film's composer, Playlist favorite Alexandre Desplat.
