Interstellar trailer
We may have gotten a teaser trailer for “Interstellar” late last year, and the film’s set to come out in just over seven months, but director Christopher Nolan still refuses to give too much away about the movie. He talked with theater owners and exhibitors at a special luncheon in his honor at this year’s Cinemacon in Las Vegas. Naturally, many questions were asked about the film, and while Nolan did talk in detail about the performances of Michael Caine and Matthew McConaughey, he would otherwise only reveal tidbits about the film here and there.

Double and Doppelgangers feature
In a culture of cellphone-snapped selfies it’s hard to imagine a time when people might have been afraid of their own image. But Facebook walls and Instagram feeds to the contrary, for the vastly longer portion of human history, to see a perfect replica of yourself was an uncanny event, impossible even, exemplified by the belief shared by some native tribes in the early days of photography, that it could take away your soul. Or perhaps they were just being super cautious about ownership of their brand image.

Inception 8-Bit
The teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar" released last year, contained a predictably scant amount of information—a teary-eyed Matthew McConaughey and elegant title design is about all we got—and one couldn’t tell if it was secrecy or simply lack of footage that prompted that result. Thanks to McConaughey’s unstoppable acting streak and the attention paid to it though, we’ve got some new info that suggests Nolan has forged ahead with an even quicker pace than expected.

Well, it doesn't get any nerdier than this. Over the weekend, the Academy's Scientific & Technical Awards were handed out—aka the Nerd Oscars—honoring the technicians behind the scenes who make movie magic happen. And on hand to help honor those folks was none other than analog advocate Christopher Nolan. Read More »

There are few filmmakers around town who can pretty much get whatever they want, and until he stumbles (if that happens), Christopher Nolan is one of them. The man behind the blockbuster "The Dark Knight" trilogy and who turned an idea about dream thieves and made it into a massive hit, can basically have it his way. And so, when it comes to Paramount's recent shift to an all digital distribution strategy for their films ("Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" was their last official film to be release on an actual print), it's not a shock that Nolan will ensure that a celluloid version exists as well.

While he's now revered as one of the most accomplished and inventive blockbuster filmmakers around, once upon a time Christopher Nolan was just another director with film canisters under his arm, hoping somebody would watch his movie. It was at the Slamdance Film Festival where he premiered his first film "Following," which gave audiences a first peel at the talent that would only get better over time. Now, the festival is giving something back to the filmmaker.

Even though a new iteration of Batman is on the way with Ben Affleck suiting up for the "Man Of Steel" sequel, Christopher Nolan's trilogy is still held as the peerless adaptation bringing both sizzle and substance to the big screen with his "The Dark Knight" trilogy. And as such, folks continue to dissect his films.

While Christopher Nolan certainly deserves the praise he's received for taking Batman, and updating the character with a 21st century makeover, and placing the superhero in a gritty, realistic context, perhaps his greatest asset was not being overly familiar with the source material. And thus, he wasn't beholden to any preconceived notions of what "The Dark Knight" trilogy of films could and couldn't be. But with that being said, there were still rules to follow, and Nolan had a little help in setting up that framework.
