While the rumors pointed to involvement in "Star Wars 7," it looks like many folks misread the tea leaves for Colin Trevorrow. While an interview from this summer where he talked about tackling a grand "mythology" seemed to give currency that he was taking on George Lucas' franchise, in recent weeks Trevorrow has been trying to distance himself from the hotly buzzed new trilogy, before telling THR outright: "It’s not going to be me for Episode VII, and I can’t believe I’ve actually had to come out and say that." However, he is taking a Disney project that is certainly beloved by many of certain age.

The "Star Wars" rumor mill keeps ticking along, and while we still don't know who's directing that first new movie, Episode VII, it seems that Disney and new Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy are already start to think of the future. After all, they allegedly have outlines for a new trilogy of films from George Lucas, which has been expanded into treatments by "Toy Story 3" writer Michael Arndt, who's also penning Episode VII. And while that film is still at least three years away, it looks like we might have writers for further installments, and at least one of them will make fans very, very happy.

"Star Wars" can sadly bring out the worst in people. The rumor mill has been foaming like a rabid dog this week – the obsessed fanbase so eager and desperate for details they will take the tiniest of morsels of information and eviscerate, expound, exaggerate and speculate over them endlessly and relentlessly for anything resembling a clue. Even as one fire or two has been quelled, a few more nuggets have been dropped that have started a near-feeding frenzy of rumor and 2+2=5 conjecture.

On paper, an indie comedy about someone who puts an ad in the classifieds, searching for a partner to go time traveling with seems pretty obvious and predictable. But writing and directing team Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow delivered something sharp, smart and surprising with "Safety Not Guaranteed." A low-key charmer that worms its way into your heart, the pair used the set up to explore (with a lot of laughs) the realities we construct for ourselves to make it through life, and what happens when they're broken. Anyway, it was a great feature debut for the filmmakers, and we're glad we don't have to wait long to hear what they're up to next.

Like it or not, filmmaking is undeniably a director's medium. It wasn't always like that, of course: it was only the coming of the auteur theory in the 1950s and 1960s that popularized the idea of the director as the person responsible for all that was great and terrible about a picture. And while anyone who's worked in film knows that it's a collaborative medium, there's still no better way of seeing where the form might be going in the next few years than by looking at the directors who've been making splashes of late.

We probably don't need to tell you about our admiration for Aubrey Plaza, and we're glad to see the actress rightfully getting her due with the lead role in the upcoming "The Hand Job" featuring a wealth of comedic talent. But another project, also featuring Plaza, will mount first and she's joined once again with some strong players at her side.
