Just yesterday we were saying that magazines doing photo shoots based on movie scenes is becoming a pretty regular thing, and why not? The movies have provided some of the most iconic imagery of all time, so why not riff on that for spreads in glossy mags? Well, Robert Pattinson is the latest to jump into the pool, with a set of pics dedicated to the work of his latest collaborator, David Cronenberg.

David Cronenberg certainly hasn't been lacking in things to do. The director has been in the midst of preparing/releasing back-to-back films: last year's underrated drama "A Dangerous Method" and the forthcoming "Cosmopolis," which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in a matter of weeks. And it looks like Cronenberg is ready to let someone else call the shots on set for the moment.

With David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" set to premiere in a couple of weeks at the Cannes Film Festival and then hit theaters in France on May 25th, the big question has been: when are we going to get it? Well the good news is that the film's North American rights have now been snapped up.

It's one of the great "what could have been" movies that will have to live on in our imagination. Before Paul Verhoeven's version that we already know and love, and the upcoming Len Wiseman-directed remake with Colin Farrell, David Cronenberg was once in line to direct "Total Recall." And while it never came to pass as Cronenberg and the producers had different ideas for the movie -- he wanted William Hurt for the lead, they wanted Arnold Schwarzenegger; he was going to go way off the source material, they just wanted a popcorn movie -- we now get a glimpse at what the result might have been.

If you'd have told us a few years ago that Robert Pattinson would be walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, we would've said you were crazy. But the young actor is leading a youth contingent at the fest this year (along with his main squeeze Kristen Stewart and Zac Efron) who will be bringing new energy to a lineup that also boasts a solid list of Cannes veterans.

After the rather staid costume drama of "A Dangerous Method," a film that failed to embrace the kink promised in the premise of an sado-masochistic affair between Jung and a former patient, many started to wonder: had David Cronenberg gone soft? The filmmaker has been steadily moving into more mainstream territory, but generally managed to keep a little of the transgressiveness that made his name with films from "The Brood" to "Crash." But with the Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender drama? Not so much.

We've come to expect the unexpected from David Cronenberg, and we certainly didn't foresee that his first feature film in four years, "A Dangerous Method," would turn out to be a talky, stagey, history lesson (even with a good deal of spanking). Neither did we expect that he'd ever be directing a cast that included Robert Pattinson and Jay Baruchel, but we'll see them both in "Cosmopolis" later this year. And we certainly didn't expect that the director, having not stepped onto a television set in over two decades (he helmed an episode of the shortlived "Friday The 13th" series), would be headed back to the small screen.

The Academy might have shut out David Cronenberg and his latest film "A Dangerous Method," but fans of the director (at least, those fans in the New York area) can still celebrate him up until the week of the Oscars, via a retrospective of his work at the Museum of the Moving Image. Cronenberg kicked off the series over the weekend by sharing his first moviegoing experiences, stories about his past films, and an update on an upcoming project -- his first novel.
