Gone Girl, Affleck
For a director known for perfectionism, David Fincher has been prolific lately, with his third film in four years, his adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s bestselling novel “Gone Girl,” hitting theaters later this year. As we wait to hear more great quotes from Tyler Perry, who appears in the film but had not previously heard of the director, why not scrutinize new photos (some via Empire) from the film for more clues about what happened to Amy Dunne?

It's too long (almost three years) since we had a new film from David Fincher, the director having spent time away with TV series "House Of Cards," and with his frustrating and ultimately unfulfilled quest to make "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea." But the wait is almost over: it's just a few weeks before "Gone Girl" premieres at the New York Film Festival.

This fall, Ben Affleck will be thrust back into the spotlight, but his prominence will have nothing to do with his humanitarian work or his role as Batman. He's the lead in David Fincher's "Gone Girl," but the director says that Affleck's experience in the limelight made him the perfect choice for a movie about a man suspected of having a role in the disappearance of his wife who subsequently faces intense media scrutiny.

Gone Girl, Ben Affleck
David Fincher’s done way too many grim crime thrillers centered around murder, right? There’s serial killer film “Se7en,” serial killer procedural “Zodiac,” serial killer mystery “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” and "Panic Room" and "The Game" both have elements of murder, crime and mystery. But it’s not really by conscious design.

Zodiac, supercut
We sort of can’t stress enough how great a film David Fincher’s “Zodiac” is. Fincher’s near 3-hour epic of investigation, based on a true story and rich in enthralling and frustrating dead ends and missed chances, is one of the most perfect films ever made about the actual and often futile process of finding out whodunit (and, for most of the movie, whostilldoingit). As this nice little supercut points out, one of the ways Fincher gets that across is through the art of the insert.

Side Effects, Rooney Mara
While the sequel to “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” may not be moving forward any time soon (read, ever), bffs David Fincher and Rooney Mara have found a way to move forward together. But this time, it’s an entirely different project. The director and actress are circling “Red Sparrow,” an espionage book that’s being adapted by Eric Singer, the screenwriter of “American Hustle.” 20th Century Fox, who are distributing Fincher’s next film, “Gone Girl,” are currently in talks with Singer to adapt the spy thriller by Jason Matthews.

Quentin Tarantino, Django Unchained
It was twenty years ago this week when "Pulp Fiction" premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, won the Palme d'Or and spawned a generation of copycat films. And to celebrate the anniversary, Tarantino is back on the Croisette where the film will have a special screening tonight, and at a press conference this morning, the talkative filmmaker revealed that he actually has a lot more from his last film, "Django Unchained," to share with the world.

From a studio’s perspective, there’s no doubt David Fincher can be an exacting man to work with. From his strict demands regarding the upcoming Aaron Sorkin-penned “Jobs” biopic to the troubled production surrounding “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” from three years ago, to battles way back when surrounding "Fight Club," the filmmaker has a reputation. But if there’s one thing you can always count on with David Fincher, it’s his love and support for other filmmakers, especially directors who are just starting out.
