Hoo boy, so let's recap this one: Last summer, it was reported that Barbra Streisand was going to direct her first film in sixteen years with "Skinny And Cat," and a pretty solid leading duo in Colin Firth and Cate Blanchett were found. Hooray, right? Well, nothing much was heard about it and earlier this week, Deadline dropped a nugget that the movie was still going forward. So far, so good, but here's where things get hazy...

Drake Doremus was at Slamdance and Sundance in 2009 and 2010 with "Spooner" and "Douchebag" respectively, but the indie filmmaker started to really connect on a grander scale when he started tackling relationships, crystallized with 2011's moving and award-winning "Like Crazy." A big smash at Sundance that year, it won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Dramatic Film and introduced the world at large to brilliant English actress Felicity Jones (she won a Special Jury Prize for her moving performance in the lead role).

Ok, name as many sci-fi romance movies as you can: go. Sure, you can probably come up with "The Time Traveler's Wife," or "The Adjustment Bureau," but what about good ones. "Happy Accidents," "Starman" if you're feeling generous, "Solaris," "2046," maybe "Gattaca" applies, but that's not a particular sub genre that's well-traversed.

Intimate, expressive, agonizing and beautifully rendered, director Drake Doremus' third feature-length effort, "Breathe In," will be familiar to those that know the indie filmmaker's small, but already distinctive oeuvre. While similar in tone and style, his latest effort is like the darker cousin to Dormeus' wistful relationship drama "Like Crazy," possessing an intensity and tension that's emotionally bruising.

As far as advertising campaigns go for computer products, Intel/Toshiba has really raised the bar. And while executive will wonder whether the investment will lead to more sales/awareness of their brand and products, cinephiles can just be happy it's another avenue for rising "Like Crazy" director Drake Doremus to show off his talents. And it certainly doesn't hurt that Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Topher Grace are along for the ride.

Drake Doremus seems to like being busy. The director of last year's Sundance sensation "Like Crazy" (which we think deserved to do better than it did), has not only wrapped on his next film (more on that in a moment), but he's also behind the camera for a campaign for Intel and Toshiba that has a couple interesting leads helping him out.

Guy Pearce has been having a pretty damn good year in 2012. The actor's been moving towards stardom since "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert" and "L.A. Confidential" fifteen years ago, and looked to turn into a megastar after "Memento," but when big-budget studio picture "The Time Machine" was a flop, he seemed to shift back into being a character actor, delivering many memorable turns ("The Proposition," "Factory Girl") but mostly resisiting stardom. But in the last few years, he's had a flurry of success: small roles in two Oscar-winners in two years with "The Hurt Locker" and "The King's Speech," a homegrown hit with "Animal Kingdom," and an Emmy for "Mildred Pierce."

Musician and composer Dustin O'Halloran has been moving slowly into film scoring in the past few years after popping up on the soundtrack to Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette" in 2006. Since then, O'Halloran has scored films like 2009's "An American Affair" and last year's "Like Crazy," which became one of our favorite scores of the year. Therefore, it is our great delight to discover that O'Halloran will score the next film for "Like Crazy" director Drake Doremus as well.
