Brazil will host the World Cup this summer and football (or soccer for our American readers) fans the world over are marking down the days with as much excitement as fanboys have for the next tentpole or we have for the next Claire Denis film. In an effort to capitalize on this worldwide excitement, Variety reports Mexican director Daniel Gruener is shepherding a new omnibus film centered around the sport and he’s bringing along some interesting names.

Gaspar Noé Says 'Gravity' Is "Incredibly Mind-F*cking"

Gravity, Cuaron
We're less than a month away from the Oscars, and yet "Gravity" is still the topic of much discussion. Granted, much of that chatter has been positive with the movie picking up continued buzz and awards in the race to Oscar night. Then there are folks like Louis C.K. who nitpick the physics of the movie and other minor details without seeing the big picture. And then there's "Irreversible" and "Enter The Void" director Gaspar Noé. Read More »

Gaspar Noé fans were a bit unfairly dismissive when earlier this month the director's video for Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' "We No Who U R" dropped. Many wanted more of the director's trademark kinetic camerawork and less wandering around the woods following a shadow, and so a few weeks later, Noé has pulled the strobe lights back out of the supply closet.

Okay, so this one is a little bit old and some of you diehard Harmony Korine or Gaspar Noe fans have probably already seen this. But for those of you who haven't, and especially if you're impatiently awaiting Korine's "Spring Breakers" and/or whatever Noe's next feature will be, this will surely tide you over.

It's now coming on four years since Gaspar Noé's last feature effort, the trippy "Enter The Void." But he hasn't been sitting idle. The helmer directed a segment of the omnibus film "7 Days In Havana" that made festival rounds last year, and he also hung around the set of Nicolas Winding Refn's "Only God Forgives," perhaps to talk with the actor about starring in the Bret Easton Ellis-penned "The Golden Suicides," which both were linked to oh so long ago. But until his next feature is sorted out, Noé kicked off 2013 with an interesting excursion.

"Only God Forgives," the latest from the bromantic duo of Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling, is currently rolling in front of cameras, and while tabloids remain obsessed with how it's affecting the actor's relationship with Eva Mendes (rest easy folks, she's babysitting his dog, so they are still together) an eagle eyed reader (thanks Lena!) has given us a heads up to a rather interesting development.

We can't say we were aware of the fact before, but it turns out that Bret Easton Ellis is quite the movie fan. His Twitter followers have, of late, been treated to streams of updates on the author's opinions of all the latest releases, with a little Oscar prognostication thrown in for good measure. We can't say we agree with all his opinions entirely, but it's certainly been entertaining, and we hope it continues.
