J.J. Abrams, 'Star Wars'
Even as we're in the mix of the awards and festival season, at the end of the day, while prestige is nice, money is actually something you can hold on to and put into the bank. And as such, the focus at the major studios still tends to be on their tentpoles and blockusters, and increasingly these days, their world building franchises. And, it's a not a big surprise that Disney wants to exploit as much of their "Star Wars" catalog as possibly, and while everything involving the series is still being kept under strict lock and key, a couple more morsels of what their plans will be have been revealed over the last few days.

If J.J. Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan and Kathleen Kennedy are looking to shake things up and have their “Star Wars” movie 'Episode VII' stand out, they might just have find the right maneuver, and it's one in very atypical casting.

Star Trek Into Darkness, JJ Abrams
Considering the hatred that grew for it this year, it's very possible you care for J.J. Abrams’ mystery box signature trait much less than we do. What’s the mystery box exactly? “What are stories, but mystery boxes? . . . What’s a bigger mystery box than a movie theater?,” Abrams said in a 2008 Ted talk on the subject. “You go to the theater, you’re just so excited to see anything — the moment the lights go down is often the best part.” He continued, “It represents infinite possibility. It represents hope. It represents potential.” But to many this essentially means: do not open up your Christmas present until Christmas.

There's still no title, and it seems even J.J. Abrams is a bit punchy about delivering the movie in time, but mark your calendars as Disney has gone ahead and slated "Star Wars: Episode 7" for a late 2015 release.

J.J. Abrams, 'Star Wars'
It was two weeks ago when there was a disturbance in the Force known as "Star Wars: Episode 7." News arrived that celebrated screenwriter Michael Arndt had been replaced on the highly anticipated sequel by director J.J. Abrams himself and franchise veteran Lawrence Kasdan. Then about a week later, rumbling emerged that producer Kathleen Kennedy's request to push the "Star Wars 7" release date to 2016 was rebuffed by Disney who are sticking to a 2015 bow. Coincidence? Well, you don't have to read too hard between the lines of Abrams' recent comments to figure it out ...

Star Wars: Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan
With the "Star Wars" YouTube channel suddenly posting vintage trailers for the original series of films in the last month or so, and with the one-year anniversary of Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm arriving this week, many fans thought perhaps there would be some kind of official announcement this week about "Star Wars: Episode 7." Perhaps J.J. Abrams secretly shot some kind of teaser? Maybe we'd get the title already? But instead, it looks like there are some issues to sort out behind the scenes.

OK, don't push the panic button yet, but maybe a little bit of uh oh if you're a hardcore "Star Wars" fan and you demand to see "Star Wars: Episode VII" in theaters summer 2015 as "promised" (read: the intended, hopeful date—shit happens). And yes, because Disney/LucasFilm/Kathleen Kennedy and director J.J Abrams did not deign to reveal "Stars Wars: Episode VII" news at Comic-Con 2013 or at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, rumors have popped up for months saying 'Ep VII' wouldn't be ready for summer 2015.

Almost Human Karl Urban
Named as one of our 10 Most Promising Network Shows For Fall 2013, we have to admit a certain curiosity about the J.J. Abrams-produced "Almost Human" based on the premise alone. That, and it has the potential to give us a weekly serving of Karl Urban in full on snark mode, which we wouldn't complain about either.
