In the latest issue of Playboy Magazine, which people still totally buy for the articles, there's a lengthy interview with J.J. Abrams, cinematic wizard behind "Mission: Impossible III," "Super 8" and the "Star Trek" reboot. Abrams' second foray into the "Star Trek" cosmos, "Star Trek Into Darkness," opens on May 17th , while Abrams' next gig is even more daunting – directing the still-currently-subtitle-less "Star Wars: Episode VII" for Disney. The interview is full of juicy information – about 'Trek,' 'Wars,' the possibility of future Abrams sequels ("Cloverfield II" anyone?) – so much so that we just had to make a little crib sheet for the ten things we learned from the interview. Accomplished director Mike Nichols navigated the transition from comic to director flawlessly, but his films afterward still display a deft handling of light-hearted moments and resonant themes. Having already dipped his toes into "Mission: Impossible," and with "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" now under his belt, it seems there isn't a franchise around that J.J. Abrams won't touch, and as fans already know, he once penned a script for a Superman movie. Without getting lost in the development history, this was in the long years before "Superman Returns" when Warner Bros. was trying to figure out how to reboot the iconic hero, with a number of filmmakers and writers all developing different takes, but Abrams version may be the most infamous.

We’ll never be able to comprehend just how he finds the time, but every week it sounds like we’re reading about another J.J Abrams project, so it's very easy to lose track of them all. One of his TV projects -- which formerly went by the title of “Inhuman,” but is now going simply by “Human” – is busy casting its pilot for Fox at the moment, and it looks like Karl Urban will be joining the already-cast Michael Ealy as one of the leads.

Walt Disney's decision to hire J.J. Abrams to direct "Star Wars: Episode 7" still has people talking, and rightly so. With one foot already in the rebooted "Star Trek" franchise, many wonder if he can make a distinctive enough "Star Wars" movie so that it isn't one mass Abrams-y sci-fi blob. Still others wish Disney would've selected any number of other talented people to kick off the next three sequels. And then there's William Shatner, whose feelings on the matter are made plain and clear.
