Rising star Eddie Redmayne caught everyone’s eye with his performance in last year’s “Les Miserables" and now is on the verge of landing the biggest movie role of his career thus far. The project is “Theory of Everything” and Redmayne would be playing physicist Stephen Hawking. Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker James Marsh (“Man on Wire”) is set to helm the picture.

It's impossible to see “Shadow Dancer,” James Marsh's adaptation of the thriller by Tim Bradby without being immediately drawn to Andrea Riseborough and her infamous red raincoat. As Colette McVeigh, she's engrossed within her family's own dealings with the IRA during the peace process and becomes an unwitting mole for the MI-5 in order to be with her son. It’s a crackling slow burn thriller (our review here) that not only finds the director once again in new territory, but also showcases the rising actress as the real deal.

Before J.C. Chandor could fully soak in the experience of premiering his sophomore feature “All is Lost” at Cannes this week -- which was met with rapturous praise (read our review here) -- he had already lined up his next project, and it's slated to shoot later this year. His third feature, A Most Violent Year,” is planning to cast a bunch of big names, but none of them have been revealed as of yet. Given the buzz for 'Lost,' however, names may not be so difficult to come by. Plot details are being kept under wraps but considering how well he handled an ensemble cast with his debut film, “Margin Call,” it should be fun to see him working with another top notch cast. An assortment of news, rolling in from Cannes like the waves on the beach there. Probably. I've never been. Anyway. "The Raid" helmer Gareth Evans is currently in production on his most-likely bone-crunching follow-up "Berandal," and, while he's got some Hollywood projects in development, isn't going to be abandoning Indonesian martial-arts pictures altogether; Screen Daily report that the Welsh ex-pat will serve as action director on "The Night Comes For Us," a vehicle for "The Raid" vet, and "Fast & Furious 6" stand out Joe Taslim. The film will see Taslim as a Triad enforcer who accidentally causes a massacre, and will be properly directed by Timo Tjahjanto.

While it would appear that Robert Pattinson is back together -- or at least hanging out with -- Kristen Stewart (just in time for their 'Breaking Dawn' press tour, which is surely no coincidence), the actor continues to line up an impressive array of projects. And already attached to movies with Werner Herzog and David Michod, he's got another non-Hollywood filmmaker that's lining up in his schedule.

Not content to let Tobey Maguire sign up for all the movies in the space created by "The Great Gatsby" delay, Carey Mulligan is getting into the swing of things joining a film that will see her exercise some different acting muscles than we're used to from the actress.

The culmination of James Marsh's slow-burn thriller “Shadow Dancer” is a change of color and a rather sudden spoiler engulfed in a fireball. But it's also another change in direction for the Oscar-winning director of “Man On Wire” and last year’s “Project Nim” that again displays the helmer’s versatility, as he moves between feature films and documentaries. And with his latest starring Clive Owen and Andrea Riseborough, Marsh once again gives viewers a rich world worth exploring, this time in Ireland during The Troubles.

It's a decade since the winner of the Director's Guild of America award went on to lose the Oscar -- Rob Marshall picked up the DGA prize for "Chicago" in 2002, only to lose out to Roman Polanski for "The Pianist" at the Academy Awards. Two years before that, DGA winner Ang Lee was beaten by Steven Soderbergh. In the last forty years, only four in total (the others being Steven Spielberg for "The Color Purple" and Ron Howard for "Apollo 13," neither of whom even picked up Oscar nominations) have won with the Director's Guild without picking up the Oscar.
