Elysium trailer
In case you missed it, yesterday evening Sony finally unveiled the long-awaited trailer for "Elysium," Neill Blomkamp's rather ambitious sci-fi follow-up to the dazzling and creative, "District 9." Starring Matt Damon and set in 2154, "Elysium" looks like a direct commentary on "the haves and have-nots." It's set in a future where the ruling class are on Elysium, an elite luxury space station above the planet, while the 99% are stuck on a ravaged and resource-drained Earth, both brutally overpopulated and polluted. And we've got to say: the trailer looks tantalizing and incredible, with some spectacular effects that point to some potential next-level shit.

In case you haven't been on the internet in the past 24 hours, Sony has broken open the doors on Neill Blomkamp's until now secretive sci-fi "Elysium." Press got a dose of ten minutes of footage yesterday (read our breakdown right here), along with the trailer you're about to see below. It's a good morning to be a Los Angeles pharmacist, as, Hollywood is just this moment waking up with their worst hangover of the year. Yep, it's the morning after the Golden Globes, and what the Hollywood Foreign Press Association lacks in respect or prestige, it makes up for in free-flowing booze and raucous partying. And so long as you don't take it too seriously, it can make for pretty entertaining viewing, something proven last night.

Jodie Foster tends to take a measured approach when deciding on her roles in front of and behind the camera, which tends to make her choices pretty interesting. And that's no less true for what is gearing up to be her next feature effort.

"I think I may spend some time on cable," Jodie Foster told the Oregon Herald at Comic-Con last month, about where she might be going next. "I think it's a good outlet for what I do. What I do are personal stories and, in some ways, usually involve family and they have equal amounts of comedy and drama, sometimes an absurdist twist, and they're very verbal. And I like constructing complex characters and hopefully seeing this sort of tapestry of how they interact with each other over time evolve. Well, TV's the place for that." And it looks like those words are coming true.

The unnecessary-but-it's-happening-anyway remake of "Carrie" over at MGM continues to move forward. At the beginning of the year, a random, but kind of inspired decision was made to have Kimberly Peirce sit in the director's chair, and now it seems a gaggle of young Hollywood talent is circling the title role.
